Fledgling Fyora S-Visit
Are you planning to translate Avernum on other languages (Russian for example)? How would you react if fans of Avernum will translate the game?
Easygoing Eyebeast Enraged Slith
Jeff rarely checks the forums, but he's usually pretty good about responding to emails. You should ask him there, just wait a few days for a reply.
Rotghroth Rhapsody Locmaar
He has in the past contemplated but decided against it. For one, he would not have control over the quality of style of the output but also it is doubtful if the market will be worth the effort. But when I inquired in the late 90's it was about German so he might have a different view now and on Russian in general. Email him about it. Hatchling Cockatrice Alorael at Large
With the newer games, at least, you can translate most of the text just by altering scripts as long as the engine and the font used support the Cyrillic alphabet. It would be nice to get Jeff's permission, but you could start doing your own translation, or at least test its feasibility. —Alorael, who believes Jeff's reasoning was that translating a niche product for a niche language is a losing proposition. He probably wouldn't object to free translation if he could be assured that it was high quality and he didn't actually have to get involved, but it's hard to get the former without the latter.
