Tenderfoot Thahd Jindrak
Well it's easy to run Avernum off of a Flash Drive, but I'm having trouble when it comes to saved games. As is I have to copy the save files into My Documents to load the save files, but I run into a wall when trying to play at my brother's place because he plays as well, so I'd have to overwrite his save files. I have the Avernum 5 folder and the Avernum 5 Save Files folder on my USB drive, is there a way to change it so save files are loaded from the drive? Burgeoning Battle Gamma Vempele
You could easily change it to My Documents\Spiderweb Software\Avernum 6 Save Files (or whatever) with a hex editor, but setting it to a different drive seems tricky. Hatchling Cockatrice Alorael at Large
The short answer is no. The slightly longer answer is that it wouldn't be so hard to rename your brother's save folder (say, to "Brother's A5 Saves"), copy your own save folder to My Documents, play, copy the folder back to your USB drive, and change your brother's folder's name back. —Alorael, who can see that working. It's not fun, but it's also probably no worse than trying to alter game data to read from a different place and then altering it back so your brother can play. If you make a copy of the executable, edit the copy and _don't_ delete the original, there will be no need to alter anything back.
