Easygoing Eyebeast Enraged Slith Posted March 9, 2009 Author Share Posted March 9, 2009 I guess quantum physics (and please don't yell at me if I'm wrong, I saw this on a PBS special a year ago) does state that it is remotely possible that the subatomic particles in the creation gathered in such a way that they manifested themselves as a gapping hole, causing my sword to miss the flesh completely. Eventually, he manages to quantum tunnel through. I'm guessing he then collapses on the floor, bruised and bloody, and dies of internal injuries. Unless you've got about forty bajillion skill points invested in Luck, using quantum physics to avoid sword blows is going to involve a lot of preliminary suffering. The scene described in Alice in Quantumland is not possible. Quantum physics only applies to little particles and waves. Planck's constant is too low for that to work. It was a silly book anyway, as I recall, and Star Trek's near-obsession with "phasing cloaks" and similar nonsense doesn't exactly contribute to a working knowledge of quantum physics either.
