Clearly the Sholai are native to an archipelago, because their technology excels where the sea is concerned. From what we know of Shapers and the sea, I should think that the technology of Terrestia was actually quite passable in that respect. The Shapers weren't wimpy at sea, they were just hopelessly outclassed. But we know the Sholai aren't advanced in all respects, because they do not have Shaping, gunpowder, or any idea how to run a proper archaeological expedition. smirk

Well, the LCDs logically have to be greater than or equal to the denominators they are working with.

FoxTrot is a gem? Also, mathematically speaking, the Lowest Common Denominator is a relatively high number.

Definitely not the Destiny Knight. Maybe FATE II, which, while strongly roguelike, pulled in a twist for the fight with Kaos. I've never been a fan of roguelikes, but if I had to have a favorite, that would be it.
  6. No, ninjas are Japanese primarily. The two statements are unrelated. As for the story, you're confusing it with the one in which whuzz-iz-name the leader of the the robbers stays for dinner at Ali's house.

Not bittersweet. Just a sort of a "bang-thy-head-against-yonder-wall-for-verily-there-is-nary-another-way" conclusion.
  8. I noticed in my travels through Geneforge, that most people hover between Lawful Neutral and Lawful Good, with Shaper government being LN-LE (Lawful Evil being defined as a society where people obey harsh rules out of fear of retribution). There are a few people floating around who count as fully LG and many full-blown madman Chaotic Evils. So where am I going with this? I feel that in Geneforge 3 (and Geneforge 4 especially) that neither side is altruist, and walking two paths has bad consequences. To illustrate:

If, in G4, you go Shaper to prevent the creation of the Unbound:

    Click to reveal..
    You become an outcast.
    Not good.

If you support the Rebels (and keep them alive by supporting the Unbound):

    Click to reveal..
    Chaos. Destruction. Ugh.
    Also not good.

If you play an altruist, who supports the serviles and rebukes the drakons (and Unbound):

    Click to reveal..
You go to a concentration camp and "know you did the right thing"

Please, please, is there a way around this terrible dead end?

True, actually. Remember the story of Ali Baba the merchant? Many assassins, ninjas in particular, were (maybe not are, I'm sure Jason Bourne is laughing at me) honorable people.

Is that why he's "trying out the new forum" because his rate of posting is so slow?
  11. Oh, great. So now we're discussing the "degrees of gamerhood" too? Fine. My vote: I am a small-time but well-versed old-style adept, who spends most of his computer time laughing over things like this:

    8. You lie awake at night trying to figure out just what the heck "IRKM DESMET DAEM" means.

    7. You have used the term "death and drek" more than once in the past week.

    6. When you have a headache, you are tempted to stop in at a local church and ask a priest for healing.

    5. You snicker softly to yourself when you see someone drinking Ginger Ale in a public place.

    4. Whenever you take a trip, you find yourself humming or whistling "The Traveller's Tune."

    3. You got thrown out of a bar on the weekend because you insisted on seeing the wine cellar.

    2. You wander around in Ultima Online trying to convince people the name "Skara Brae" was stolen.

    1. You went through a whole pad of graph paper playing Diablo II before you realized the maps are random.

You certainly shan't get there with that attitude!

Unless, of course, you make a lot of posts with that attitude.
