When it all started, Geneforge was way more graphy than Avernum. But Avernum began to have a heavy Geneforge influence, starting from Avernum 4. Its like Spiderweb took all the Geneforge graphics, removed the shaper insignia, and textured them onto the new Avernum engine. Since then, Avernum has stayed one step ahead of the former, it being always released earlier and having an extra number in the series.
Avernum 4 also introduced the concept of "Vahnatai Shapers".

Spiderweb all-arounders who have played both series can easily distinguish a Spiderweb game from any other one in the planet wink

Not a big kyshakk fan, are you ? laugh

I was talking about using trainers to modify the skin (appearance) each time you press a specific hotkey.

Script editing is when you modify the files contained in the game ; Its called 'passive' editing. But in a trainer, you modify the variables that the game puts into the computer's RAM (Random Access Memory). Trainers work in real time(the trainer is a seperate program which runs along with the game).

Spiderweb is very nice & open about all the data files : everything has been put into txt, bmp and png files, easily editable smile .
  5. I've created a trainer for G5 which allows you to change your (handheld) weapon.

You get to choose what weapon you want, from a listbox containing all weapons in the game. This is actually part of a bigger project (i'm creating a complete item trainer for G5). I just thought i'd release a sample trainer now so you can suggest any improvements smile

    (102 Kb : Windows Only)

    G5WW : fileden.com

You'll have to play G5 in DirectX mode for the trainer to work cry , but dont worry, I'll be porting it to the normal version in later releases smile

    -----------------------------------------------------------

I've (finally whistle ) stumbled upon the memory segment which controls a fyora's attacking ability. I was able to create an acid-spitting fyora, & a fyora which charms enemies. Right now I'm trying to figure out whether its possible to make a melee creation perform ranged attacks. I'll (eventually) be creating another trainer to do these too (Yup, I create trainers for a living).

Don't you think that this was a great limitation of the game; that you were not actually "creating" a creation, but you were only selecting from a list of predefined templates ? I've lost count of the number of times I've wanted to create charming vlishes.

i suggest convex lenses for shortsight.

if glahkks are artilas with legs, then artilas should be glaahks without legs, which doesn't make sense since removing a glaahk's legs won't make it spit acid.

    so there. *with finality*

:- You see a drakon's mouth below its eyes :-

  7. Become a rat. or a shade. have an army of golems.

G3 GenePool : Go to the site and click "download"

-: You see a drakon's teeth above its eyes, and realize that the whole game has been turned upside down.. :-

UPDATE : i forgot to mention that that the trainer was made for G3 version 1.0 - but maybe it will work for other versions too.

and could anyone please experiment and announce what numbers you can use, *safely* ?

Years later, its Geneforge 5, and I've made a new trainer for it. Check out the G5 forums.

Btw, the idea of shaping yourseld into a different character still remains wink.

  8. you might have seen that each character has a specific number associated with it (eg shaper=0) which decides what skin template should be used for it. so by changing these numbers at run-time, we should be able to turn a character to another character.

    like fyora into wingbolt.

what do you think ? and are you a game modder ?

  9. Finished the game and are bored? or stuck somewhere and need extrahuman help? thats when you use a trainer.

sad, i searched for geneforge 4 trainers and found absolutely nothing..there was just one trainer for G2 ( who created it ? ). Anyway, i decided to create one.

    it will have :

    lock health : live forever

    lock energy : tire not

lock essence : no more limits

hey, i dont know if trainers are forbidden by the shaper council...but if script editing is okay, this should be okay too...

UPDATE : (The GenePool) shape yourself and your creations further. create mutations. transform yourself into a drakon.

UPDATE : Shape for yourself a group of rats, golems, townspeople, guards and other characters.

An army of rats and shades ! sounds good ?

UPDATE : i'm terrifically sorry, but i dont know when i can finish the trainer for G4. but i have made one for g3, which has the above features. find it here :-

GF3 GenePool : go to the site and click download.
