  2. The only Eater Eggs I recall are the few references to Vahnatia and the stuff like orbs with Girzard... Gizhard... the evil wizard from A2 anyway. Anything like a secret dungeon would be news to me.
  3. You mean the second level down in the Crypt? There are two wheels, one in the northwest corner and one in the southwest corner on an island. They are both blocked by magic barriers (so if you don't have the dispel barriers spell get it) the north one is blocked by demons and the south one I think has a basilisk or two. If you mean the gate that blocks you from the river or entering the second level just at the bottom of the northeastern stairs (there should be another wheel right next to these stairs that opens both). If you used the southeastern stairs that lead up to a secret passage in the top level you will need to go all the way around to the normal stairs to unlock the gates again using the northeastern wheel.

  5. I always thought the lack of troops was particially due to the Empire lacking an "adequite" leader in the eyes of most of the nobles and other high ups, it seemed like Empress Prazac was struggling to maintain power and control after the death of Emperor and the failed war with Avernum, I suspect there was alot of serious political whatnots going on in the background. As for the why the first expedition was slaughtered, the following conversation may explain why. Solberg "hmm, I can't remember, did we tell that first expedition not to stare directly into the sun?" X "hmmm ... well ... we taught them about trees ... and how to get hit by a fireball .... no, can't say we told them that" Solberg "Uh well, maybe next time eh?"
  6. Um, I think we are talking about the first expedition into Avernum, the one you read about in Avernum 1 (well before X made the Xian items), not the first expedition onto the surface. Though maybe thats a possible scene too, who knows.
  7. Heck, even the story of the first Avernites, with a young King Micah(sp?), Erika, Patrick and them lot taking over the underworld from the demons. I could see you playing a party during that time that could actually win the scenerio, the First Expedition ... kind of just dies, painfully.
  8. Edit: Uh I see what you mean, your using the mouse right? thats quite annoying, I use the number pad unless I want my party to "run", it offers much more control, have a practice with it and you'll get used to the directions hopefully.
  9. Ok ... so, in conclusion, Stealth should make a return to Avernum 4 and the new kilt item should give you a 10% resistance bonus to cold attacks. Heh, sorry.
  10. Heh, my posts seem to generate such wonderful off topics.
  11. Been awhile since I've played Avernum 1 so I can't quite place a few of the last important level 3 spells. Namely the locations of the following ... Bind Foe (not to important) Haste (very important) Lightning Spray Fireblast Arcane Summon Arcane Shield Arcane Blow Safe Travel (another important one) Unshackle Mind Divine Fire Return Life Divine Warrior Divine Restoration Divine Host The last 3 Divines and Arcanes I have a vague idea that you need to complete some of the major quests to gain them. The others I'm unsure of, any help would be appreciated. Thanks

  13. The stealth spell would make a nice return, I liked going at it commando style back in Exile.
  14. Head to the South Eastern (bottom right) corner of the map and tap along the bottom walls, if you have farsight cast it around here and you should be able to spot the passage, it loops below the passage your in than goes around to the large unexplorered centre area.
  15. Uhuh, I found exactly what triggers Erika to tell you about the Divulge password for the statues, you have to get past the giants gate and grab a boat, than find an island with a small tower on it and talk to Aldin, than return to Erika and ask about her plans for revenge, she should now tell you about the statues and divulge ... head to Almaria and talk to the statue to get your spell as mentioned above.
  16. I remember one of the statues teaches you it after Erika tells you something ... hmmm, I'm not sure what she tells you or what you have to do for her that lets you get info from the statues.
  17. Never remember the Naga having hands, just a long snake body and a womans head? And what exactly is all that pink stuff holding Gazers and Eyebeasts together? apparently it burns you, acid goo? stinging tentacles? magical force fields?
  18. I may be going off topic of the current off topic, but I think I saw it mentioned a few times in this thread about the only civilised races in exile/avernum being humanoid bipeds? What about the Aranea, Naga and Eye Beasts? all of them appeared to have developed culture, languages, social structure and in some instinces even organized armies? I think both kinds of civilisation have been expiremented with in the series (though I admit the less humanoid bipedal races appear to have less ability to act in a non-evil way in the series, with the exception of possibly the GIFTS but I'm not sure how intelligent or civilised anyone would claim them to be).
  19. Honestly I felt the series was best left finished after BoA myself and that Spidweb should try a new story in a new place, something different. But we will see how this turns out I guess. I semi-agree with some different item graphics, just something to let us see the difference between a stone shortsword and a steel great sword, better still something that shows differences in materials (stone, bronze, iron) though grouping them all together as mentioned above would surfice. Thats all from me.

It's intriguing as a programming challenge if nothing else. I might break my rule about not making something I won't use for it, simply as a curiosity as to whether I can do it. I might put it on my list of things to do--after the ones that are useful for everyone, that is, and not just the newbish-types. Well I'm happy your willing to consider trying it, even if you don't agree and seeing as your not going to let up on your side of the arguement I would recommend everyone else accept this as well, I mean really most of us have been argueing the same thing over the last 3 pages, both have valid points and are right in some instances, how about we leave it at that?

  22. Well, I have learned C++ and Visual Basic, I haven't caught got the hang of C++ yet but still more experience then the average person. Yet I would still prefer a visual tool for creating BoA script. I suppose I could teach myself, but who really wants to spend all their time learning with what is essentially supposed to be a game?
  23. Possibly because I don't believe he has a PC available to test it on. Arenax's current projects sound far more interesting to me as well, I haven't had much problem with the 2D editor, a 3D one is just a nice want rather then a need.
  24. I know I said I was planning to take a look at it, but eh, life had other plans, apologies to anyone who got their hopes up.
  25. Not much has been happening it seems, I thought the grahpic contest entries would have been sent over. But I doubt it would be worthwhile someone else making an archive, I don't think it would be updated any quicker then the current one.
