  1. I got burned out on BoA trying to finish my own scenario, and I've also played this before, so I wasn't rushing to do it again immediately.

However, I've noticed some weird bug that keeps putting my party in odd locations when I leave Lyre southward. I don't know what causes it because I can't find a way to reproduce it, but it's happened a few times now.

  2. SDFs are basically a tool used for organizing events in your scenario. For instance, you can prevent a special encounter/state from occurring until a specific SDF is set to a certain value. Here's a simple example:

    Code:
    beginstate 10;	if(get_flag(10,0) == 2){ //dictates that this specific event will only occur when the SDF is set to 2		message_dialog("The magical glyphs no longer eminate their dreadful aura; you are free to pass, unhindered.","");		set_flag(10,0,3); //sets your SDF to a different value to prevent this special encounter from activating again		}	if(get_flag(10,0) < 2){ //dictates that this specific event will only occur when the SDF is below 2		message_dialog("As you try to pass over the glyphs, a feeling of dread takes hold and chills your heart.  Overwhelmed, you stagger away from the terrible pressence.","");		block_entry(1); //prevents the party from moving forward		}break;

Due to SDFs, you can have this state do multiple things depending on its current value. In this example, I used SDFs to prevent the player from moving past a certain location until they've completed an event elsewhere in the scenario.

Outside the original serial killer reference, I agree wholeheartedly with this statement. We talk a lot about how the media influences women, but not so much about the messages it sends men. It teaches us that men are beer drinking, sports watching bums and women are long suffering, naggy and cater to their whims. I don't like it one bit.

Me neither, but it does give me the excuse to post one of my favorite

  4. Thinking about politics just makes me angry all the time. Every year and generation is the new "worst ever", so I've just started to ignore current events. There's also the issue that being involved in politics would mean bumping heads with people I'd rather pretend didn't exist, so I avoid it in order to maintain what's left of my blissful worldview.

  5. If I could hazard a guess, I think the primary contributor to this discrepancy would be that women do not benefit anywhere near as much as men for all the effort it takes to succeed in STEM fields. Their interest in this kind of work would have to lie in an intense passion for the material, rather than a desire for challenging or lucrative work.

As SoT pointed out in the opening post, while the 35-45 age range might be a great time for men to start a family, it's not the same for women. While men tend to be valued for security and stability (which a competitive degree + job provides), women are sought for their fertility, and all that education cuts deeply into their most valuable years. I'm not saying that some men aren't attracted to power and intelligence, but I think those things are more accessory to the ultimate goal of raising a family. I wonder how many women pursuing STEM degrees get hitched and stop their education at Graduate school or lower in order to pursue that goal.

  6. You should really post some more information if you want detailed help. If you're looking for a way to have unique statuses stack every time you swing the weapon, you can have the script check the targets level of that status and set it to a variable. You can then set the value of "how much" to that variable plus whatever increment you want to add.

I'm not the one who made sweeping, insulting generalisations about men and women's "role in life". If people say things that are offensive and couch them in fake science, I'm going to call them out as offensive, and I'm not going to apologise for that.

    Is he wrong?

You're the biologist. I'd honestly like to hear what the scientific community has to say about human nature. I've got my own theories, but they're pretty much pulled straight from my own experiences and motivations.
  8. Because I'm a mouth-breathing basement dweller, I spend a lot more time thinking about video games than a stable human being would ever have time for. Something that has bothered me since I was a teenager is the sheer amount of sex portrayed in my hobby. I speak, of course, of the gorilla-esque neanderthals that pass for men, and the scantily-clad mammary cannons with legs that pass for women. Frankly, it's pathetic, and I'm embarrassed to be associated with it. I originally thought the industry was just marketing to the pubescent gamer's lower sensibilities, but it's recently occurred to me that many older gamers not only enjoy this trend, but have come to expect it. I'm not saying I don't enjoy looking at attractive women, but there are plenty of other venues for that hobby without mixing it in with gaming.

When I heard that Valve was making a sequel to the popular Warcraft III mod, Defense of the Ancients, I was excited to see what they would do with the property. Valve has a history of designing engrossing games with stylized graphics, so I was pleased when they released their first concepts for the game. This was their concept for the fire sorceress. This is what they eventually changed the model to after loads of negative feedback from the fans. The other female heroes in the game pretty much resemble her. These are the men. While the game has some of your typical herculean hulks of beef, the male characters tend to have a bit more variety and style than variation x on bikini/leotard. It's almost jarring when you put the two groups together, and I think it hurts the art and integrity of game.

Anyway, this is something that has annoyed me for a while. Am I alone in this?

Tip for budding writers: if at any time you feel compelled to write the phrase "he fights for the justice of others," consider instead injecting lidocaine into your fingers to render them too numb to write, and then taking a short nap until the urge subsides.

c'mon, it had some great lines too, if only by accident

but seriously there's always the War of the Lions remake for PSP, although people have issues with that translation for the opposite reason

It's kind of funny how a translation with improper grammar and inappropriate pop-culture quotes can evoke more emotion than a bunch of foo-foo flower speak.
  10. Top of my head in no order:

    Ogre Battle 64

Tactics Ogre Let Us Cling Together

    Indiana Jones Fate of Atlantis

    Knights of the Old Republic

    Team Fortress 2

    Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer

    Starcraft

    Warcraft 3

Diablo 2 (not anymore, but I played enough of it in my life to put it up here)

    Resident Evil 4

    Pokemon HG & SS

  11. 1. Student of Trinity's corpse would be instrumental in teaching those zombie wolves a lesson in physics they'd never forget.

    2. Alorael greets me at the portal. Actually, it's more of a mugging, really, in his desperate and violent search for the skribbane he'll never get to taste again.

    3. Stareye, I guess, since he seems to be the disciplinarian around here.

  12. The trick is to gauge how smart/capable the rest of the class is to figure out how much effort you need to put into your paper in order to get whatever grade you're aiming for.

P.S. I'm in a bad mood as I am supposed to be asleep but a certain family member had to watch a movie (with many explosions) loudly and scared my sleepiness away, now I need to figure if payback is due or should I just bare with it for two more weeks before s/he leaves.

You could have tried telling them to turn down the television. Also, Pugs:
