  1. yay! from everything ive heard, there will be no way around a5 for me. finally another game i would gladly pay for after the avernum trilogy!

theres only one thing i still have to hope for, though: that a5 will resurrect some of the a1-a2 flair. which means, of course, that at least a part of the game has to happen in the underworld.

edit: i forgot. if rentar-ihrno really comes back as an undead, i will repel spirit her *** so long she'll keep herself from ever being mentioned again in any game in the world so she doesnt risk getting any more of my attention. isnt my nickname humiliating enough to keep her away?

damn rentar. i started hating her the second she wouldnt let me inside her lab. BRING BACK ERIKA INSTEAD!

  2. i never doubted the empires greediness (sp?) or anything, i just dont think they wouldve taken them just like that, badabingbadaboom.

and brooches or not brooches, in a1 you encounter at least one fully intact and operating empire base observing the NW region of avernum. they actually use magic crystals which remind me very much of those of the vahnatai. there were many other clues of both vahnatai and empire presence through a1, which i cant fully recall.

if the player can discover those things, why shouldnt empire elite troops and adventurers? its easy to put together, especially considering the ghosts that actually tell you about the vahnatai.

of course, they didnt have to tell the empire anything, but there are ways to make ghosts talk.

and how could the empire have such good connections to the rebel vahnatai so quickly, if not because they were prepared?

  3. i think its more plausible that the empire learned of the vahnatai before or during a1.

they explored much of avernum during the first expedition, and had an observative presence in many places after that. considering the amount of vahnatai relics in those parts and the competence of the empire agents, they mustve found something.

and considering empire policies, they mustve found out about the vahnatai caves etc.

they wouldnt steal powerful, weird, alien crystals without knowing about them for a while.

  4. i agree with alorael on everything there, though ive never heard of planescape.

but id like to add that much more important than the aspects you mentioned, is the games atmosphere. and who in the world would say that diablo 2s and avernums flairs have any similarities?

other than youre good and fight evil, of course.

    or at least supposedly so.

  5. dammit. at least i know its pacific time now, so i can just 9 add hours to everything.

    thanks.

btw, did anyone see the episode in which homer goes to clown school and laughs at the word 'seattle'? just came to think of it. nvm.

    edit: had to add 'add'.

  6. since i live in austria (gmt +1h), the time setting on this board really confuses me. is it possible to adjust the viewed time to my time zone? ive found none such option so far.

    edit: sp

  7. well, looking for it and retrieving it of course makes you stronger, but i honestly dont think thats important. you should kill hawthorne right before you leave avernum anyway, and so it shouldnt make a difference.

i have no idea why it is so horrible to attempt the teleportation with 4 brooches. what happens anyway? if you die, just reload. or what?

  8. to be honest, im sick of the vahnatai. yeah you spelled them right.

i hate plagues and diplomacy and stuff, i miss the warfare-feeling.

and i hate rentar. im so glad she dies at the end of a4.

HA! that was for you guys telling me the vahnatai were responsible in a3.

  9. the same way you develop a relationship to a car or your comics. or your girlfriend. but thats another story.

it appears to me that effectiveness mostly cuts down the fun. one of the best parties ive ever played was an all-warrior party. 2 sliths (pole), 2 nephils (melee). all have bows, lore etc blabla, which adds up really well. as a variant, all had priest lvl 1 and mage lvl 3, but healing, curing, blessing, light and hasting. of course thats problematic later, without diving restoration and divine warrior, but there you go.

edit: btw, what the hell is up with the poll? the numbers on the second questions cant be right.

cast it on other opponents near them. if there are none or its not effective enough, cast create illusions or summon aid and use them as targets.
but if you think thats evil or something, you can always haste and bless your warriors and walk around with them.
if you still have problems: shades count as demons and thus take extra dmg from demonslayer.
  11. i remember several such encounters in the northern islands.

oh wait, why did i think he was talking about a2? whatever, i think thats quite much the only place to find so many drakes at once, except only the drake lord-fight and the ice drakes in western footracer province, a3.

and please, forget about trying to fry the drakes with any of these fancy high-end spells. just take a stick and bang the hell out of them.

  12. i think its a very good idea, and works perfectly fine in diablo 2, patch 1.10, where it was implemented just like you meant.

i really dont think it would unbalance the game too much, it would only give you the extra edge a hero needs.
