Seeing this topic, I checked and I just realized I have had an account here for roundabouts 8 years.
I do a lot of lurking in the Geneforge boards for minmaxing.
Like a LOT.

A cursory search of google didn't come up with the short story to read. I am wondering if it's available online anywhere or if I will have to go hunt it down and buy it? IF anyone could find a link that would be much appreciated.
I recently read the Catacomb short story by Henry Melton and was incredibly impressed, so I take recommendations by Jeff very highly.

^ Delivering packages for UPS this year, I encountered an apartment in which the owners were away for the holidays, and someone had left them an uncovered plate of cupcakes. As I was going up to leave them their box, I saw a squirrel scampering up a tree with a cupcake in it's mouth 3 times the size of it's head.
I tried to cover the cupcakes best I could, and left them a note on their door.

Noooo!
Sigh. The problem with being a PC user is that the game is going to be nerfed before I get to it.
I saw all these threads about "It's too hard" and my heart and soul were just screaming YESSSSS!
Oh well.

I seem to recall in either Exile or Avernum, that when you smash the children it gives a very dark and morbid narrative describing you doing it and how it's f*cked up.
I always killed them.
Even when it didn't grant you awesome chainmail.
And not that this was my reasoning, but isn't it better to, if you're going to raid this dungeon and kill all of their parents and caretakers and the whole village, to kill the children as well so they don't starve to death/die of exposure
Again, not that that was my rationale. I just wanted XPs.

Remember Exile: Escape from the Pit?
I sat on my arse around Silvar until about level 10-15 fighting nephils and goblins and earning enough money to buy bronze broadswords and decent armor and training on everyone before even attempting to move west towards Cotra and fighting sliths.
I assume this is going to be similar in A:EftP. Just keep it at a nice slow pace.

I have definitely never noticed any of those issues, whether it be the selling trick or the dex, and I am constantly on the lookout for that kind of thing. If there's any more you know of, I would love to hear them.

How do you forget about, arguably, the most influential person in the entirety of Avernum during her lifetime?
Also, I personally love her name.
Inb4 derailment of who was the most influential person in Avernum.
Inb4 you can't inb4 your own posts.

Well, my purpose to running the emulated mac was because I didn't wanna wait on spiderweb games, so it would be of no use to me. And with work keeping me busy, I probably won't have time to partition a hard-drive and get a copy of the latest mac-os. Maybe I'll have it done by Avernum: The Crystal Souls...

I have been trying to figure out how to do this for years. I wasn't sure it was possible; I thought I would have to partition a hard drive with a mac OS on it. -
Without knowing more about your build all I can say is hit up the areas you are missing one at a time. None of them should be really challenging on normal difficulty, aside possibly Lethia Pass.
In terms of what items to carry around, if you are focusing on missiles, keep around your thorns and a baton or two. Make sure you have either spores or spells to cast bless, shield, haste, and regeneration aura. Keep major healing spores and or restoration spores on you. You can dump everything else, or keep in your inventory as you see fit.

I am playing through the 2nd avernum game in and taking notes for use in a DnD campaign I'm running.
I would have done the first game, but I'll probably just run it as a prequel, and it will be easier for me if I wait until A.EftP is done to play through, rather than playing a.1 and getting bored of the series before A.EftP comes out.

I always assumed it was a function of the glowing fungi on the ceiling. Something like, they glow less the later it gets. They may not always have a 100% accurate time, but they could at least tell days.

Also, you can steal the robe without fighting the wingbolts if you want, just be really stealthy.

I disagree that the shock trouper is as strong as the other classes. Splitting between strength and intelligence is a huge deal when it comes to end game killing power. A dedicated shaper or agent have so much more capability for raw power due to magic skills. A shaper can level their creations and spend relatively few points in shaping skills to still have amazing creations, and back it up with powerful magic. The agent gets even more powerful magic and can make a couple moderately powerful creations due to high intelligence and possibly swapping a couple pieces of shaping gear. The shock trouper simply does not get to pump their magic stats high enough without gimping yourself.
On easier difficulties the shock trouper is significantly stronger because you can one hit things with melee and your creations.

I wasn't paying attention and gained way too much shaper rep. I saved as many conversations as I could, but it still wasn't enough. Does anyone know a cheat/editor I could use to set myself pro rebel?

The eyebeast is rough early but he's not TOO terrible, especially if you prepare.
The key is to use EVERYTHING in your arsenal.
Start with buffs.
Regen aura, because mindshield won't be enough anyways.
If you don't have essense blade (probably not if it's early), chaos spores work-ish.
Shield, haste, bless... keep these up through spores if you have 'em.
You want to force the gazer into melee in a corner. Proceed to use wrack, vlish for curse, essence shackles if you have it(again, probably not). You might need to use ensnaring fibers or a wand of slow, if you're taking him early.
wands of acid are great for dealing with the turrets, alternate between that, wand of flame/fire crystal, poison crystals, and healing your creations.
This strategy allowed me to enter storm plains via Lermans before doing Stoneworks, and pick up some phat lewt in the process.

This will be your best friend.
Kill the worms with physical damage. You don't need to go there yet (or ever, really) by the way. Good luck with the gazer. That's a really tough fight if you don't know what you're doing, and it's still moderately tough if you do.

Welcome to the forums. Please leave your sanity at the door.
That being said, there is no other way over the river. There are two ways into the storm plains, via lerman's pass or the stoneworks, but the orchards is the ONLY way to get past into Dera.
All the help I can give you without knowing your build is that you can switch the difficulty down to easy mode, and to try and stick with a patrol and help keep them alive. I believe there are also some creations on the west side of the map that you can get to assist, but I am not certain. It's been a while since I've been there.
But at level 45, you shouldn't really have too much trouble with the Perikalia Orchards unless you messed up your build or something.
EDIT: NINJAAAA

So I can hold on to my creations probably until I join Alwan for shaping training, then put points into it and start making stronger creations... Hmm....
EDIT:
Playing on Hard instead of Torment since it's my first ever full shaper. He is /destroying/ things. I just took Lerman's Pass at level 32 with 3 plated bugs and 3 vlish. Lost one of each killing the great eye himself, but it was worth it as I'm about to start making Drayks and Rots.

I've played so many many times through all of the Geneforge series, but this is the first time I've ever done a full shaper. After finishing out the whitespires, I see what you mean about leveling creations. I got my cryoas and clawbugs to level 18 without putting a single point into shaping. So as a pure shaper planning on holding onto my creations, would I be better off just getting +shape-skills gear and not putting any points into those skills at all? Just giving him straight magic skills and int?
-
I've read conflicting things on this subject, and I was wondering, what is the point of keeping creations vs. disposable creations? It's not like levelling them gets them higher stats than creating them at that level, so isn't it better then for the purposes of flexibility to just use disposables?
The only thing I can think of that keeping them has an edge with, is the possibility that you could spend less points into the shaping skill, and more into intelligence or whatever else. Is this the only difference?
