  1. Well, I doubt he'll ever release the source to the original trilogy, but he did release the source to Blades of Exile, so it would in principle be possible to remake the Exile trilogy on that engine. I'm not recommending it, mind you (in particular, permission would be needed!), but it is roughly the same engine as E3.

(Of course, BoE also needs to be stable before you can do anything like that with it...)

Pretty sure people have already tried remaking E3 in BoE. There's a puzzle with numbers that doesn't work in the BoE engine, and I'm sure there's other quirks. Who knows, though?

  2. Oh, I've since beaten the chitrachs, and am going onto Erika's tower. Thanks, Lilith. My party stats are pretty good, the only thing I regret is wasting a lot of tool skills on my rogue--I didn't know that you should combine that with your mage.

  3. I've finished most of Avernum 4 (still have Erika's tower, Darkside Loyalists and Rentar to deal with). My problem is getting into Khoth's tower. I've got a four character party that's around level 30 (warrior, rogue, mage and priest), but I keep getting clobbered by the chitrachs that spawn all around me. I've tried clearing them out by fighting and attack spells, but most of my party members have died by the time I get to the barriers and I have to go back to town to recharge. And when I get back there, they spawn yet again.

I've also used summons to distract the chitrachs, but that fails too--my summons only focus on a few chitrach. I also have some wisdom crystals left--which areas should I focus on? Endurance, hardiness, defense? And what's the best technique to defeating the chitrachs?

    Thank you!

Can anyone here justify why exactly the Xian skull serves any purpose? What is it for? I carry it around, as I have done since I found it at a ritual site surrounded by Ogres. The skull makes various out of character remarks as well as some useful bits of information which is understandable? Where would this skull go? Do I keep it indefinitely? Please help.

When you find the Altar of Takoma, you have to gravy the Xian Skull and then feed it to your donkey. Once you've dont that, just follow the prompts. If you have the Xian Shovel, your gravy skill will be at double strength, so hopefully you will have picked it up from the Tomb of Bothel. If you do it right, you should get a hefty bonus to your charisma.

Yeah, it mentions some things about the library of Gale, and Judith, and how to find Foxfire. And besides that, it's hilarious. Why would you want to get rid of it?

I found the 'improve gravy' recipe book on Gasworks Island, but couldn't get into the tomb for the shovel. I followed the prompts and gained 2 points of edibility.

Plus, if you have at least 10 gravy points, then make some gravy and give it to Anaximander, he'll teach you how to make haggis (if you don't know what haggis is, look it up in the dictionary.)

Although too many gravy points (15+) can result in 50% more damage from darkness breath, I find gravy points worth it when in Hawke's Manse.

What good is the haggis, though? If you eat all of your other food and then try to rest, you eat the haggis and it makes everybody ill. Is there somebody you can give it to?

Have you acquired the emerald turtle statue? Make sure you have both halves before talking with Gus on the isle of Maddok. Oh, and also make sure you have terror level 3 before trying to read the runes. Or else...

I've never really found the gravy skill worth my while. I prefer to spend skill points on Bocci Ball Lore. It comes in handy for that special encounter in Fort Pickle.

I hear you, Rider. But if you don't have a high Bocci Ball Lore, you can usually get the key from that Bocci Ball nutcase if you offer him a pack of skribbane cigarettes. Of course you have to arm wrestle Lebowski in Woodinville to get those, and your strength has to be at least fifteen to win, so it's usually better to go with the Bocci Ball Lore if you want to get into the Smith Tower.

  6. I upgraded Avernum 2 from 1.0.2 to 2.0, since 2.0 can supposedly work under my operating system, Mac OS 9. However, when I attempt to open a save file, nothing happens. No dialog box pops up. My old save files are now listed as "Documents".

Should I revert to an older version of Avernum 2?

    All help appreciated.

  7. I've nearly ended Exile III, with the same party that I mentioned in my previous post. However, there have been a few problems stopping me from finishing the game.

    1) I have the activated Erika bracelets, but Erika isn't showing up to fight Rentar at all. Is this a bug, or have I forgotten to do something?

    2) I've activated as many crystals as I can find on Level 2, even the crystals behind secret doors mentioned in the GameFAQs. Is it okay to push the crystals in twice? Am I missing any?

    3) I've reached the control console next to Rentar-Irhno (not sure if I spelled that right) and have punched in the correct combination to destroy her creations. But the message tells me that I'm back to square one.

I'm probably missing something really obvious here. Help would be appreciated. Thanks.
