  1. I will play this game again someday. Looking at a few years of prison at the moment, and my PC died...again.

Anyway, I was a Spidweb fan before BoE, and it irks me that he (Jeff) seems to hate BoE anymore, but I at least understand it from a professional standpoint. That's energy spent that je doesn't get money for and isn't likely to get many people interested.

  2. It pains me to inform you that I seem to have…uh…misplaced my work on the matter. Even searching using undeleter programs does no good. Commencing hopeful search of old hard drives and document archives.

EDIT: 1 hard drive down, 2 HD's and 1 document archive to go. Got to wait til we move on those, though, as I've packed them away in anticipation of purchasing our first house.

EDITx2: Fairly upsetting, really. I had a BUNCH of work done on it: Town and Outdoor maps looked nice, characters all accounted for (beds for each human, too!), ready to throw them all into a delicious story. I hope I find it. I'm gonna go unpack those things right now, it's worth knowing if its all on there…

  3. Been quite awhile since I've visited the old boards. I like the new look (AND the fact that someone has FINALLY taken the time to update stuff!). So what do I need to know if, say, I've been away for several years? Is Alorael still lurking? Do I need to duck and hide my skrib?

    You're still here?!
  5. Hmmm…I think we must remember the core of what an RP is, it's Role-Playing. We're taking control of people who have, in the course of their life, learned various arts for whatever reason, whether or not those arts are truely useful in the caves (like throwing things, for instance). So Multiple and far less useful skills are truer to the essence of RPing. That is my argument for the prefab party (which I never use).

  6. I've always found it a waste if I have so and so many skill points to spend. I try not to spend my points like hardcore statboys (most invested in luck), but I try not to waste them, too. What I mean is that I'd rather have a point of luck or alchemy then archery. Archery was never all that useful until Avernum, imho.

Exile was very tough if you use the prefab party tongue. I found it decently challenging. Have you beat it yet?

  7. I think it'd be worth it, as an option, anyway. Line of sight limits usually aren't an issue.

While we're talking about more stuff to add to the wish list, let's do the effect limit higher. Right now we're limited to 50 barrels, webs, forcefields, anythings. That's silly. Fix it.

  8. Okay, so I had to use artistic license for a lot of the administration level, and for the core of the lecture halls, but I got through them alright.

I noticed something really irritating: Jeff didn't keep track of the number of probable beds (hard to guess, because of the destruction)

    vs.

-the number of common hall seats (assuming they all ate at the same time, but this is supported by the idea that this is also the assembly area)

    vs.

the number of seats in the lecture halls (projected, based on what was already there).

Based on the beds, I estimated that the total pop of in-house students was around 14 (3rd year max)+28 (2nd year estimate) +28 (1st year estimate), which is like 70+. The common hall seats were 40 something, which is rather inconsistent, assuming they all ate at once. So I'll probably cut down the number of beds in the 1st and 2nd year dorms to help alleviate the difference.

The lecture hall was a whole-nother issue. Lots and lots more possibilities. To solve this, I'm going to cheat. I'm going to make a married/"adult" students "town" connected to the lecture hall by a tunnel that also houses the guards. For those that are no longer children or adolescents or some such. That would allow for so and so many students in the living halls (dorms+common hall) and so and so many more students occupying the lecture halls (dorm students+adult students). Allowing, of course, for the fact that all the lecture halls probably aren't going to be used or full at the same time.

Boy isn't giving life to that which died fun! Now on to the Libraries and Experiment Halls…

  9. So I'll spill a little now, to get some interest, I'm making a scenario based on the events described in VoDT. I've wanted to do this for years now, and now that I <don't> have the time, I've started reconstructing the School of Magery. I've got everything up until the Admin level cleaned up. This is what I say now:

Yyeeah…knew this would come. With all the other levels thus far, I think Jeff created a place, and then mussed it up a bit. Very easy to clean up and make it look like a functioning institution. I think Jeff didn't create a place with this one, he just created chaos. So now I have to try and recreate what may have been the living and functional Administration level. Yippie. For those of you that don't know, the Admin level is mostly just a big mess of cave walls spliced with normal walls, interlaced with somewhat interesting rooms. Except for the Ruby Skeleton, I think it's a rather good dungeon, one I would have serious trouble topping, I think.

So, on to turning a dungeon into an office floor…
