  1. Interesting. I heard Exile is now freeware, is this true? Would I even be able to run it?
  2. I've noticed as I've been playing, several people (I think they've all been in the Castle) have directed me to speak with someone named Gilda. I've never found such a person, but the person who does handle the responsibilities related to what they're talking about (clearance) seems to be called Radner. Is this the same person? Is she named Gilda Radner or something?
  3. Mostly just collecting gear from humanoid enemies, I think. Since overworld enemies often respawn that seems to be the way to go.
  4. Yeah, that'd minimize the issue, but it'd still exist. There will be situations where there are just tons of enemies : /
  5. Okay, so there are two guys trapped in the basement of Elderan's Tower named Bill. They both seem to be under a curse that will kill them if they leave the tower. Is there anything that can be done for them past killing Elderan?
  6. I actully understand this situation. I had to keep reloading because I needed to be in party mode(as opposed to combat mode), but in party mode my vulnerable mage is at the back and if I'm running with people behind me they tear my mage to shreds. I might actually start having my fighter as fourth... ... Wait, can positions be changed? Anyway I feel like contributing the topic, hope that's cool (despite it being years old). My party layout has become: 1. Nephil Swordsman/Bowman (Lockpicker/Trapper) 2. Slith Spearman/Javelineer(Chucker? Thrower? What word would be appropriate...) 3. Nephil Priest/Mage (Potion-Maker) 4. Nephil Mage/Priest (Cave Lore-guy) I was a little worried at the beginning with the whole -50% exp on my casters, -60% on my swordsman and a whopping -70% on my spearman... but both casters just hit level 40 and I've only completed 1/3 of the end game scenarios. Do humans have any particular bonuses outside of the lack of an exp penalty? (which seems to be a rather unnecessary worry with how thorough I am in games like these)
  7. I used ctrl+F for Silverlocke on that page and the first thing they mention is how Silverlocke sells Knowledge Potions. Nooo kidding, lol... If the 9k cap wasn't there it might be a different story but that's a loooot of trips.
  8. So I've been commissioned to retrieve no less than three Black Drake Fangs. I searched all over the northern islands and found 2 (I was surprised when I took out a group of drakes and they didn't drop them, the ensuing dialogue box specifically noted that I gained nothing from the fight)... Is it actually possible to find 3? If so, can the third be found in the Northern Islands or where elsewhere should I look? If not, which of the three people are recommended to turn it in to? 1. Enla, in the Lair of Motrax. 2. Lith, in Egli. 3. Vincent, in the Tower of Magi. Enla and Vincent specifically mentioned the Northern Islands, Lith didn't give a recommend location.
  9. Do you mean to go into preferences, then switching the sound effects off?
  10. Yeah, double-checked and I definitely have a Roman Message signed for Commander Vibius, who won't take it no matter what conversation option I pick. I have to assume there's something else I'm supposed to do or somewhere along the line a bug came up. No worries, just a demo first-look.
  11. Yes, I recall finding the specific body with the leather satchel still on it with the message. I also checked my special item section for it. And I've talked the commander's ear off... I'll recheck in a few, but in the mean time, more suggestions are welcome.
  12. I think A1 had these too, the roaming lizards/cows that offer the opportunity to 'round them up' which inevitably always fails. Is it actually possible to catch them?
  13. I recall reading that the Simulacrum spell's cost is dependent on the creature summoned. This does not appear to be the case in A2 (fixed at 12), is this an A3 feature? Also, for some reason my first creature was overwritten and then the second slot was skipped (and I believe the third slot may have been overwritten too, but I forget)...
  14. This question isn't super-duper important but I can't figure out if this is just the end of the demo or if I'm doing something wrong. I'm playing the NG:R demo and even though I retrieved the scroll/message from the goblin cave, the commander won't address it. He keeps telling me to go to the cave and acknowledges that I've fought goblins.
  15. This is a problem I vaguely remember having in A1, that I'm definitely having in A2 atm. It's been going on for such a long while that I actually forgot that it's a problem there might be a solution to. First, in the opening image/tune, after a few seconds of the opening tune it cuts off suddenly and the loading cursor appears. Second, in battle- after a certain number of moves have taken place, it stops showing me what's going on and instead temporarily freezes and shows the loading cursor as well. After a short period (depending on the number of combatants) the result is then shown and I can continue with combat. This is fairly disruptive and it's actually pretty helpful to know what's going on during combat. Any ideas?
  16. So apparently I just unlocked a medal- now how do I look at my medals and do they do anything gameplay-wise?
  17. : | Derp. Got the Orb of Thralni less than an hour ago, but since I've played A1 I knew it existed. For whatever reason using it did not occur to me. Thanks, both.
  18. Okay, so for the controllable characters, outside of consumables, there is no absolute protection.
  19. It seems like some attacks/abilities have a specific range (which I'm steadily figuring out) and are affected by line-of-sight. If a character is out of range of acting, they move and then act- but I actually don't want this. My positioning is always fairly specific, I don't want my characters wandering around messing up my formation or tactics. Is there any way to tell where they'll move to, if they need to move at all or simply prevent them from moving-to-act?
  20. Okay, so I figured out that big stalgtites can be destroyed with the Move Mountains spell, which I now have tier 3 of. So I figured the inaccessible path NE of Fort Dranlon that is blocked by a big stalagtite would be the same thing... but it seems like I can't use Move Mountains on the world map, even with tier 3. This is fairly specific (going to try to find a map for reference), but does anyone know what to do to get around this? I see a group of what looks like wights or something just north of it, but it's blocked by a huge pit and more stalgtites... Okay, found a map, but going to have to specify the location (for those who don't recall the precise location of Fort Dranlon): http://nikkis-nook.hallsofchaos.net/Avernum/mainmap2.html Okay, if you can locate where the words "Small Slith Fort" are- it's in the tile immediately to the south-east. Specifically, in that tile, it's at the very northernmost edge. It's the part leading off into a narrow tunnel that is accessible from the landmass of Fort Dranlon. Hope that wasn't super confusing.
  21. It's been a while since I played A1, but I think you could buy them from Silverlocke, as I know you can do in A2. I've heard if you buy out her entire stock that she restocks with knowledge brews, but that's a loooot of money- with the limit of 9k in A1 and the limit of 15k in A2 it still takes many, many trips.
