  1. An hour later, the item just appeared in my inventory. Okay... Also wanted to see what happened if I killed Vardegras right off when he's first chasing you around. You can kill him, but then the storyline plays out with him still there anyway through your fight with Miranda and your 2nd talk with him. When you get back to Proteus you tell him that you killed the dragon and you get the medal.
  2. It's an item you can give Nicodemus for him to make something for you - except that it goes through the text of him making something and then I didn't actually get an item. I went back to autosave and tried it again to be sure. Nothing.
  3. Started playing Avadon 2 again last night; doubt I'll do another whole playthrough but as far as requests for A3 - I would love love love it if the storyline would incorporate the class you choose to play; if the other characters would be aware of it - if you're a Blademaster then you talk Kva lore with the party's Blademaster, if you're a wizard then the party's wizard wants to duel you, if you're a Shadowalker then you trade stealth tips with the party's Shadowalker. If a Tinkermage, the party's Tinkermage waxes philosophic about Legos with you. If the world's NPC would notice and treat you accordingly ("hey, word to the wise, spellslinger - that cave's full a' magic-resistant beasties; if I were you I'd get yer friends who can hack it out toe-to-toe to venture in with ya...") Personally, the more of this kind of thing, the more I'd love it; I'm all about the role-playing and I'd love it if EVERY SINGLE FIGHT had some kind of significance beyond just gaining XP; no random monsters, no trash mobs. I know some players dig the trash-mob grind but to me it's a bore. Silke mentioning your class one time in your first convo w/her was a start - so just do that times 1000, please.
  4. Sometime during my playthrough I started seeing that "one of your party suddenly falls ill for some reason!" See the pukey cloud? See the acid thing? They took a point of damage! A whole point!" And every couple minutes they'd take another point. But I always had like 300 HP more, so it was sort of like scratching that kind of magnetized stone that self-heals, because no matter how many times they all threw up or retched or whatever, I'd do any fight and after beating up NPCs they felt great again. When I got to Garzhad, my guys were like, "what up with your face?" and Garzhad was like "what up with the perma-acid bitches? Y'all make me look like Megan Fox"... and he was right, but I smacked him with Demonslayer and he shut up eventually. But now that I reflect... he had a point, didn't he? Where'd I piss someone/something off so badly that they made me perma-sick? I didn't take Micah's spare change from his room. Is that a Dread Curse? If so I never dreaded; I mean my party maybe, but I had cheese and crackers, I was good. How do I get rid of it though?
  5. Oh, yes, One of the single most frustrating things about your games is clicking your character to approach an enemy when they don't have a straightforward path and watching them go THE OTHER way because the AI decided that you wanted them to go around a wall, or something.
  6. Yep, I got it. Funny how killing Athron doesn't decrease your reputation. And killing Sulfras: "your reputation will be even more fearsome than it is now..." yet no change. What's that about?
  7. ...I finished the game without ever getting level 3 Dispel Barrier, but I'd like to take Athron's stash and kill her so I want to pick it up now. Barrier Tower? I never found any code to getting to any such place. Mahdavi has nothing more to say at endgame.
  8. ...so, there's no quests related to it? You can liberate it, kill the eyebeast... but you can't tell anyone or gain reputation for it? I checked King Micah afterwards, nothing...
  9. Eek... you know offhand where I can buy one? I finished the game a while ago and haven't been playing in the interim.
  10. ...the ones in Waterfall Warren who "seem to want something." Never had any idea what they wanted. Nothing on the Forum about it. What's up with them?
  11. I hadn't happened on any of the 3 when I first entered the room where the statues give you the passwords, nor did I see the food lying around in the place where the statues need to be fed. Whether you find it obvious or not that the items are in the location you're in is really about personal predilection -- I'm more of a story-oriented gamer, so missing any cues from the story about these items I assumed they were elsewhere. Signs on some of the rooms would be fine, I guess. On a related note, there are a truly absurd number of "permanent" quests in this game -- i.e. in every single town a shopkeeper wants you to get books for them, or Empire records, or cheap wine, or sugar, or iron bars or XYZ. Some of these are fine, the ones that are related to fighting the war, but after the Nth trivial one pops up, it's like... "hey mighty hero of Avernum, I know you're running about saving the world, but gosh I've got all this pocket lint! Find me a lint remover, would ya?" Some may enjoy these, it would just be good if there were separated from the quests that move the game along. Since they're just scattered in-between the story-oriented quests I have to keep picking through the quest log to see what I'm gonna do next. It's a simple fix, just separate the perma-quests on the quest bar with a bracket, or a different font or color. (I realize Jeff will never see this.)
  12. Someone could say, "headed to the Halls of Chaos? I hear time gets out of joint there, you might wanna grab something to keep yourself from getting distracted..." a clue like that. It doesn't have to be rocket science. Whether or not you figure out that that person meant "an hourglass," when it came up you'd think "oh, that makes sense" rather than feeling like it's a random placeholder.
  13. I just wish things like this would be foreshadowed in dialogue, so they don't seem so random when they come up. In some ways Jeff is good with plotting, in some ways not so much. At least now your party (sometimes) refers to themselves as "we" rather than "I." That always made me totally tune out when playing the original Avernum series. (Yes, I know you can play as one character, doesn't make it kosher.)
  14. The game is going to make me go find an hourglass to use in the Halls of Chaos. I checked the list of "items to keep for quests" in the Strategy Central thread. Wasn't there. Where, O Spiderweb Forum people, may I buy an hourglass?
  15. So it's another 3-word code I need to visit Barrier Tower? Where do I get it?
  16. In ANY case, I am playing the remake whatever its subtitle is. Barrier tower -- eastern lands, south of the Abyss?
  17. Okay, talked to Leith, read his book, he knows how to recover words from a burnt paper... and then? Seriously...
  18. Nice to see I'm not the only one having trouble with this quest... Found the statue, gave it the password... but none of the characters involved who I can talk to about it have any new dialogue to advance the quest. Now what?
  19. Yes. I'm playing the remake of A2, not the original. I played all the originals years ago.
  20. Have to take a boat from Formello to get there, yes? Is there some pre-req to do before you can get a boat?
