Some oil eating crabs for the Gulf of Mexico, some fruitful desert growing plants for starving wasteland countries, you know, some serious altruistic stuff. Maybe I'd reveal that it was me in old age, when everyone was familiar with the thing's I'd created already. Then, when the government came for me, I'd at least die (and be dissected) as a legend.
  2. Ephesos was not the person who came up with the idea. In fact, I believe it was originally conceived in a thread by yourself, Student of Trinity. You posted something about running a stripped down campaign with some kids, then it was ET who said he ran games on IM with his own very crude version of D&D. He posted an entire session he had and that's what set it off in this community. Ephesos's system came soon after that and he coined the term AIMHack for it. He ran a few games, and two other people have since adopted Ephesos's system and started their own campaigns. One other person, Dantius, created his own system and is also currently running a game. Oh, and ET is also currently running a game with his original system as well.
  3. Dantius has informed me that I get to level to 3, as he only penalizes levels if people habitually miss sessions. Thanks again, Dantius. Click to reveal.. Dana Templeton Level 3 Health: 16 Speed: 4 Stamina: 11 Energy: 6 Dodge: 8% STR: 4 DEX: 2 CRD: 3 INT: 4 END: 2 WEAPON SKILLS: Handheld Weapon (Nuclear Blade): 4 Handheld Weapon (Needlegun): 3 GENERAL SKILLS: Mental: 4 Bluff: 3 Armor: 3 Stealth: 1 That leaves me with one point in the bank. Also, could other people post their levels here in the thread? I'd like to keep up with what other people are putting their skill points into (if only so I don't choose the same things) but some people haven't posted a level since they first made their characters.

    Could be Worse

I was kinda joking. Even if Jeff could pull something like that off, I wouldn't want him to try, seeing as I'm one of the loyal fans that would be outraged. It's actually pretty funny to imagine the problems that having my real name posted on these forum would create. For many people... heheheh.

As of today the Real ID 'feature' has officially been cancelled. Boom. It's even signed by Mike Morhaime himself, the Jeff of Blizzard. It's crazy turnarounds like this that make Blizzard the epic company that they are. I mean, this issue actually got them publicity, so it was probably worth angering tons of loyal fans, who were going to keep buying their games regardless, for a few days. In the end, they look like heros foe giving the people what they wanted (back). Jeff could learn a lot from these guys.

It's really all about the age old question: Do you want the freedom to, or the freedom from? The internet has always been a place for freedom to, but then, no one owns the internet. I guess if Blizzard wants to make their own forum freedom from, that's their call. We'll see where it gets them. I don't think the world is ready for a freedom from internet just yet.

Blizzard, makers of World of Warcraft, is taking steps to end anonymous forum logins. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/10543100.stm Kind of meta to talk about forums on a forum, but I thought it was interesting none the less. I'm sure this will never happen here, though, if only so that those that run this board can maintain their own anonymity.
  8. There are really only so many plots that fit well with a given game engine. But no matter what you do, it's probably been done before, so the real question is (and this goes for anyone making games, writing books, or filming movies) can you make it feel fresh? Jeff does this and does it well. It's what keeps us all coming back for more.
  9. Aw, man. It doesn't have to be like the old colorful maps, which were overly detailed (I remember for the real heavily wooded areas of Nethergate and Avernum 3 I'd use the minimap instead of the normal view to get around, but that seems unnecessary now that outdoors are gone). Honestly, just coloring explored land a slightly darker grey would be fine. That would make the map more useful, not too easy, and it probably wouldn't hurt the graphics much at all.
  10. The old minimaps were really, really nice. Almost too nice, though. Less detail is fine for me but I wish they would at least have explored land colored in so we can tell what we explored, rather than just have the walls. I've mentioned this often enough now, though, that I feel like a broken record.
  11. The latter Avernums were kind of three dimensional if you take into account how places like the Honeycomb went up and down. That was one of the cooler parts of the game, imo.
  12. Here is the backstory for Dana. Enjoy! Click to reveal.. The First Speaker was always heard first, as was his right. “Dana Forret. Your assignment to the Imperial Navy is nearly finalized. You need only prepare your assumed identity.” Dana nodded to her superior, and responded, “First Speaker, I will assume the identity of Dana haut Templeton, daughter of the fictional Peer of the Realm: Pertinax haut Templeton. My backstory is that I, as a third daughter, was doomed to be used as a political bargaining chip and married off to one of my father's potential allies. To avoid this, I ran away and joined the Navy. I am sexually promiscuous and suffer from a mild personality disorder-” Another Speaker sneered and interrupted her, “Hardly covert! You pick a rather intriguing person to pose as. Inviting questions is a poor method of infiltration.” Dana smiled, “With utmost respect, Speaker, I disagree. I will use the strategy of hiding in plain sight. I will be boisterous and abrasive, living in the now, discouraging any probing of my past. If there is one person that will remain unquestioned in the line of duty, it is the scorned and seemingly insane daughter of a little known Imperial noble. Questioning such a person would be a seemingly futile and indeed painful proposition.” Dana's visage shined with confidence in this plan, and the Speakers felt this confidence as it radiated from her. They seemed calmed by it. The First Speaker also got the final word. “Novel. Very well. We will trust in your judgment as we do with all of our agents. In the end, Seldon will prevail, regardless of your success or failure. Dismissed.” Can't wait for the next session.
  13. No, it will not. I was actually kind of disappointed in how little effect killing the mayor has on the game. I mean, no one knows you killed her if you use the scarab (including yourself until the deed is done!), but even if you go on a killing spree in that town, there are no apparent repercussions. It will effect your ending, however, if your are planning on siding with Melanchion all the way. So, if you are planning on that, I'd avoid it, if only for RP reasons. Also, we're not allowed to have animated avatars. You should probably change that before you get into trouble.
  14. Actual spoilers within: Click to reveal.. I always saw Lancelot as the traitor. Maybe you could play as him, and make that decision yourself whether or not to betray your poor king and steal his wife.
