Curious Artila taltamir
There are 5 dragons. There are hundreds of drakes. Sulferas' greeter calls her a drake. (either an insult, or indicating they are the same thing) Athron had baby drakes. (indicating drakes are baby dragons) The chasm drake is said to be "as big as a dragon" (indicating drakes are not dragon) there are probably more inconsistencies there, I am really confused as to whether drakes are baby dragons or something else. Easygoing Eyebeast Goldengirl
Dragons and drakes are different species. Dragons are nearly extinct due to the Empire hunting them down, but there are abundant amounts of drakes. However, drakes may be conceptualized as smaller, dumber, less long-lived dragons. Hatchling Cockatrice Alorael at Large
Athron's babies are drakes because Jeff didn't bother to make a separate baby dragon monster type. I can't remember what Sulfras's greeter is doing. It may be an insult, confusion of terms, general imprecision, or Jeff not having quite worked out the distinction in his very first game. —Alorael, who thinks drakes and dragons probably differ by genus. There are subspecies of drakes (fire and cold!). There aren't enough dragons to tell the difference between individuals and species.
Curious Artila taltamir
Athron's babies are drakes because Jeff didn't bother to make a separate baby dragon monster type. He could have just made a copy of the drake template only with the name "baby dragons" or some such... Also, if she did had babies then all the people, including the other dragons, are incorrect in saying there are only 5 dragons in the caves. IIRC some of the other dragons know she had children but still say there are only 5 dragons...
Easygoing Eyebeast Goldengirl
I always interpreted Athron's babies in a loose way contextually, such that they are her creations and precious to her, much the same way one might coo to a pet, "Oh! my baby!" Athron's babies, after all, come later.
Understated Ur-Drakon Earth
both are deadly and bigger is more deadly, that's all needs to know (before slaying them and after that it doesn't matter).
