Thanks, he ended up being surprisingly easy since I went back to an earlier sav and gained levels after finding him difficult the first time around. Guess I learned something about spiderweb games from playing Avernum first lol.

Bleh figured it out, thanks. I'm lacking one skill point for it SIGH hope I can get by the Onghror battle without group heal lol.
  3. So yeah, confused as hell by the skill tree..I expected something like Avernum.

I don't understand how you unlock certain skills exactly, it seems like Jenell has both the requirements necessary for group heal, but group heal is unavailable..can someone explain concisely how new skills are opened, is it by level or what?

To get the drake quest ("The Gap Drake.") from Sabrina in Blosk, you have to choose the dialog option "Smite? What was it?"

To get the Scimitar quest ("The Scimitar.") from Royce in Blosk, you have to choose "And what have you heard?"

I do not get that option anywhere in Sabrina's dialogue tree, with the Royce quest I choose "and what have you heard", and I get nothing in the log. The only thing I can see that might be linked is that I also have a scimitar quest for Bargha...

Edit, i'm assuming maybe the Bargha quest is simply the same quest, so I already had it, I got a scimitar quest from someone much earlier in the game.

With Sabrina, of note, she will not tell me about her adventures and simply says "i'd rather not talk about it".

She will tell me about the drake however, just nothing in log.

I've sometimes missed seeing quests because I didn't scroll the list.

No...I checked that first thing. Either it's an actual bug, or these three encounters don't put anything in your quest log.

  7. You guys are scaring me, I too feel like i've invested so many man hours in The Dark Tower that I should just finish it, now i'm not so sure.

Also on the fantasy front, Gene Wolf wrote another whole series (8 books maybe) called The Book of The Long Sun which Is tangentially related to the New Sun series I think...I got most of the way through the first novel, it seemed good but slow. It's on my future to read list to go deeper into the series.

  8. Ha, funnily enough I too finished up the whole New Sun series, for the second time. They are still really fantastic but there were some glaring things that I didn't notice last time I read them..which would have been roughly 20 years ago.

Namely, the main character/narrator Severian seems compelled to have sex with every woman involved in the plot. I guess this just made sense to me when I was 16:). Probably I hoped my own future would hold just this kind of luck.

Now i'm reading Book 5 of The Dark Tower series by Stephen King - hey..some of his books are actually pretty good, though I feel like the series hit it's peak in book 4.

I tried this, it simply won't let you go downstairs in combat mode, and you will be in combat mode if you open the chest...so, unless i'm missing something this isn't possible.

Also to be more specific, it's the drakes double fire breath that's doing it, sometimes that results in an immediate kill. There is nothing else about them that seems very difficult, but i'm not sure how to get past that.
  10. For the record, the fights aren't hard exactly..it just seems like with boss fights I am usually missing some crucial component in terms of spells etc. that the game has simply not "pointed" me to..inasmuch as the game points you to anything. Either that or I just need a level or two to do it.

So yeah i've cleared most of the little stuff in the beginning, i'm now working on the bigger Slith fort near cotra, the place across from fort Dranlon with Sliths for the Slith Arcana quest, and then sailing up to the Aranea dungeon..hopefully I can actually complete one without having to wander off somewhere else.

  11. I went and bought some spells, just the ice aoe and haste made a big difference.

Still the same thing though, running around, clear out part of a dungeon to find I can't complete it...so i'm doing like 4 dungeons simultaneously really.

Done most of the two of the Slith places, but can't quite manage the bosses, got past a difficult aranea battle though!

Wondering if I should just play on casual lol.

The best thing you can do is skip places that are causing trouble and head to the Tower of Magi for better spells and the Great Cave to do delivery quests. Gain a few levels doing easy stuff and then return.

Welcome to Spiderweb Software. Please leave your sanity at the door. The beta testers did and because most of them are insane min/max power gamers you are having trouble.

I've played these kinds of games for something like near on 20 years, from Ultima 6 on...it's fairly user friendly and intuitive so far even compared to early 90's commercial releases, I don't find it terribly hard, just somewhat..uneven I guess, where I can clear 90% of a dungeon, then two battles are impossible.

I'll take your advice and just head to the tower of Magi, and follow things geographically thanks!
