  1. Well, I have. Let me prove it to ya... Umm, actually I'm not sure if I have been experienced. See I'm trying to track if summoned creatures are stealing experience. I'm also trying to track if one of my dudes goes unconscious, do the other 3 split up his share of missed exp? It's rather had to track as exp gains are not uniformly split it seems. And I'm still trying to make an XML file out of the saved games. I've been messin with a hex editor to track changes when making small changes to stats. But its rough.
  2. I have done some reading on dwell clicker, and it doesn't make sense that it is not working in A6. One thing that I came across is voice activated mouse clicks. Right now there is a program on the mac... http://atmac.org/voice-activated-mouse-clicks-with-macspeech-dictate Dragon Naturally Speaking can also accomplish this. But their site is spartan and unclear on if its included in the product, or something that a user added on to it. Would something like this help you? To be honest, I had assumed there would be more programs like this available. If your using a pc, and not a mac, there are also some other interesting things that you can do by using autohotkey. In playing MMOs I could control 3 characters at once by clever use of scripts. Linking a program like Dragon with autohotkey would open up a TON of possibilities.
  3. Thanks for the advice folks. It seems like I was a bit overzealous in buying dex points. I was trying to set myself up for parry/riposte later on and decided, what the heck, why not throw in one more for gymnastics. I will start to bring hardiness up a bit per the advice. I believe that I was looking at that chart, and the per point damage increase for skills. It was very helpful and illuminated the fact that QA is really the most lucrative, up to skill 10. I was also reading Randomizer's list of trainers, which also included "GP spent per skill point saved." This seems like a great way to decide on which things to train first, and which things its just better to spend my skill points on. Gold seems very tight in this game! I am also curious what data can be derived from the saved game files. I have looked for a saved game editor for a starting point, but have just found references to the character editor in game. I am learning a little bit of javascript and it seems like I could convert the character data into an xml file. And then populate a web form with that data. This form could also include derived stats such as chance to hit, damage etc. using the algorithms contained in this forum. It would also be really cool if we could see each other's characters on those forms. Kind of like what they do with world of warcraft armory. But I'm just a beginner...
  4. Would an autohotkey script work on a mac? Say, ctr-alt-click on object records pointer x,y coords, moves to x,y coord of that button, clicks, returns to recorded x,y and then clicks.
  5. Following your advice exactly, it seems sound. I had already planned on getting my 2 melee cats to 10 QA, I read a chart that shows it gives the most bang for the buck. But first I will get them to 6 endurance. Before I had thought that % damage reduction from skills was more lucrative per skill point than % increase to HPs, but getting one-shotted is no fun. I wish I had held off on arcane lore and just bought it from trainer, but oh well. I've actually used a lot of your posts to help me w/ my group. I really appreciate all of your efforts. One thing that I have been unable to find is what spells become unlocked at what spell levels. The thing is, I don't want to see a spell list, as I like the surprise of unlocking them. But I certainly don't want to be pumping priest/mage skill for no reason! Oh I also have been unable to figure out what unlocks the battle disciplines. I have tried doing searches, but the forum search tool doesn't seem helpful for me. Even "Avernum 6 discipline" returns a useless list. Thanks again
  6. Moved out of my previous post so others looking for party advice will find this easier and not get hit w/ spoilers. Here is my party, I would appreciate any advice. I'm not looking to be the most powerful. I just want to be able to do most things and stay on hard difficulty. If the game gets too easy, I will lose interest, as had happened the second I tried normal mode. As an aside, I'd like to mention the difference between normal and hard is incredible! Skills I havent spent points on omitted Fighter/Tank: Traits: Divinely Touched + Elite Warrior Level 7, 13 unspent skill points. Str: 4 /Dex: 6 /Int: 2 /End: 3 Melee: 7 /QuikA: 3 /Arcane Lore: 2 Defense: 5 /Nature Lore: 2 /First Aid: 2 /Luck: 2 Dual Wielding: 1 Fighter/Thief: Traits: Divinely Touched + Elite Warrior Level 7, 10 unspent skill points. Str: 3 /Dex: 5 /Int: 2 /End: 4 Melee: 5 /QuikA: 4 /Arcane Lore: 2 Tool Use: 10 /Nature Lore: 2 /First Aid: 2 /Luck: 2 Priest/Bowyer: Traits: Divinely Touched + Pure Spirit Level 7, 5 unspent skill points. 7. I have read through the strategy central part extensively. Very nice work people! Moved party info into new thread to separate build advice from spoilers for others.
  8. First off, thanks for the help in my other thread. Really got the info I needed. So I started the game in hard mode. I have almost made it through all 3 of the starting castle quest lines. Patricks Tower, Dharmon and Gnass. On hard, the challenge seems about right. But there are some spots that are just destroying me! Namely the drug dealer beneath Darmon, the Wight in the soldier's graveyard and a ghost thing under the Tower. The ghost specifically just slaughters my team one right after the next. I feel like I have absolutely 0 chance. So I lowered difficulty to normal, and that same ghost was an absolute cake walk. I mean no challenge, which makes it kinda lame. So just out of curiousity, are these spots supposed to be this difficult? Am I supposed to come back to these spots once I'm super powerful? Or are my tactics just borked. It seems odd to fight so many things with around 100 hps, then BAM, these dudes have hundreds of HP. With the wight, I killed him once after many tries. And then he respawns with a team of ghosts! It just seems impossible at this stage. For my team, I have all cats. All have DT 1 dual wield + defensive skills and QA and elite warrior 1 dual wield + lots of tool use and elite warrior 1 priest + some bow plus spirit trait 1 mage + level 1 priest spells plus mage trait I have left the main stats kind of low. It just seems like a waste since those points are so expensive. Both my mellee dudes have 5 or 6 dex, but 3 or 4 str and 2 or 3 end. Thanks again! I'm really enjoying this game.
  9. Woah, Lilith, that really changes some things. But I guess its not really worth starting over again. I want hard to be hard. While I enjoy min-maxing, I don't want to breese thru the game. And those first 3 ranks of skills don't really take all that many skill points. I do appreciate the clarification tho, thank you.
  10. Thank you Randomizer, that made it very clear and was exactly the info I was looking for.
  11. Thank you for the quick reply! As far as first aid, I interpret what you said as each character needs to have his own first aid. Other char's skill will not help. What confused me was the tooltip saying "The more of this present in your party, the better." Now I'm confused about nature lore. All my chars picked up 2 levels of it in the hopes that we would have a combined difficulty rating of 8. Is this not the case? If not then just one of my dudes should have focused on it. In Mount and Blade there were several skills with a similair description. Mount and Blade would either: a) Use only the skill level from the char with the highest, thus making it useless for all other chars to bother getting it. Combine all of the chars skills together and apply the bonus to everyone. At least I think thats how it works. It was rather confusing and required looking at tables of stats on the web. This game kinda feels the same way. I tried going on just intuition, but it quickly felt like I would be frustrated later on in the game once I learned more and realized my dudes were gimp. Side note: I restarted my party with 2 chars divine touch/elite warrior, 1 mage/divine touch, 1 spirit/divine touch. All are cats. Seems much better this way. Im playing hard difficulty and its pretty easy so far. I also like how money stays scarce throughout the game. So many RPGs make gold obsolete towards the end. Thank you!
  12. Hi all, I am sorry if this has been covered, but I have searched extensively and found nothing. a) When is the right time to buy skills? I understand I can buy 3 levels. So wouldn't it be smartest to wait until late game when it costs so much more skill points per level? Or do these levels purchased not increase the point cost? in some guides people are holding off on buying/training a skill. Why is this? I have read that skill increases through racials/skill purchases do not count towards unlucking hidden skills. c) I heard it mentioned that purchasing spell levels is not worth it, and to just purchase the spell unlock. Why is this? I think it would be great if my buffs lasted more rounds and my mage damage spells hit harder. d) which crystals should I be selling? I have a bunch of flawed and beautiful crystals, should I just sell them? They don't seem to do anything else. I know to save the flawless ones. e) do all vendors offer the same price when I sell to them? So far they do (about 1/4 total value). But if they ever offer a better deal, I'd like to hold off on selling some stuff. f) the tooltip says first aid is a group skill. Does everyone get healed the same amount, or does their individual first aid skill matter? A guide I read said its a good idea to give a mage a high first aid skill level, but this is counter to what the tooltip implies. Thanks all, this game rocks and shows that gameplay is everything, there is no substitute. Not even superior graphics makes dragon age as addictive as this game is!
