I accepted the quest to disipline her ogre servant, but when I go up the stairs a square gelatinous cube is blocking the way. How do I remove this barrier? Thanks in advance.

I completed the "Papers" quest, then talked to Ciessa. She directed me to the commander guy (forget his name) who gave me a shield and sent me out. I then finished the Basha Guards quest, in which I have to get information for Seargent Ciessa. When I returned to Blackchasm she is not in her usual spot, and I can't find her. Where did she go? And if I can't finish these early quests because I moved the story along too far, can I delete them from my log?
