Of course this is a hypothetical since San-Racku is, in actuality, defeated by nudging the PCs' shoulders very strenuously. I'm going with Grimly since San-Racku can only screw with me while I'm on crack.

Sovereign, on the other hand, is not actually described as being really powerful. Illithids and Boemen are comparable in strength (well, Illithids are more powerful, but regardless), Legion wasn't summoned by Sovereign (and Katothen wins by far if you include his friends), and Katothen made his own dimention.

Coolness factor or no, Katothen is outright more powerful. Including Echoes NPCs is a bad way to balance any poll of any sort, but you already made the mistake, so...

Master vs. Zuwhiel... Eh, Master doesn't actually get beaten up.

And as previously commented, Kassand is a lich and Rentar-Ihrno is a manifestation of Jeff's chauvinism and masculine insecurity, which is probably more powerful than us all.

Have you learnt nothing since NTH? :p
  2. Got rid of that old Graphics Contest thing - how out of date was that?

Could someone do the same for the BoA game forum, or give me mod powers there and I'll do it.

I also got rid of the Article stuff, as people aren't really writing them anymore.

Anything that SHOULD be put in the header?

  3. Concept: We give the designers a single concept or idea that they must incorporate into their scenario. They can create the rest around it, much like a pearl.

E.g. A death is blamed on you.

Now, depending on context, this allows for a great variety of adventures. Also, we get to see how different designers approach the same premise. In the above example, we do not specify who or what died, why, whether the player is in fact guilty, or even if anything actually died. One designer could make a scenario where a man disappears, and the player is accused of murdering him. You have to escape the authorities and find the man to prove your innocence. Another could make a scenario where you lead an expedition into unexplored territory with a number of companions. But when one of them dies the team begins to fracture apart as some of them blame you for the accident. As long as it's an integral part of the plot, anything goes.

This contest is to be open to both BoA and BoE scenarios.

Judging will be done by discussion. Scenarios will be evaluated according to their quality, and to a lesser extent, how original the approach to the basic premise is.

    Whatcha all think?

I'd say the most important factor depends on the scenario. Some scenarios emphasize certain elements, others focus on others.

I would say one of the most important elements in general and one I like to focus on is the relationship between the player and the party.

PoD, there is no way DreamGuy is Jeff, as you'd realize if you'd heard him complaining about A Small Rebellion, and how a choice with no easy answer is a false choice.

  6. I'd also point out that game design and scenario design are two quite different things, just as writing a novel isn't the same as writing a short story. A good writer should be able to do both well, sure, but just because you have some experience with the one (and I'm giving you the benefit of assuming you aren't just lying), does not automatically mean you know everything there is to know about the other.
