1. Dragons however manage to get me torn. I think by far the best written are Athron and Vardegras(this one not by much), but i always thought Kloth and Sulfras had potential had they had more airtime and better script. But both were confusing to say the least kloth most of all with his alegiances, once he'd burn the whole empire for stealing a scroll(not for hunting his kind to extinction mind) and the next game he joins the empire which for a smart dragon, was pretty dumb. Not on odds of the invasion but more on the lines of how likelly the empire would be to respect his wishes. He made no sense and afterwards he convenientelly disapeared(likelly killed by the player). The fact that they had just 2 games to shine might have something to do as well as them only appearing towards the end. Which brings me to Melanchion which i like hating on. He's moderatelly well written but he can't compete with his mother. But i prefer him on 5 than on 6
2. I never played exile but mindduelist seems much better than demon expert which never made much sense. How would solberg's knowledge on demonology lead him to know garhzad was half demon. Was unconvincing. He got too much airtime and by the time he died I heaved a sigh of relief. But i figure rone and patrick are worse. Patrick seems to want to die half the series when he's not ranting about vahnathai like a fangirl on coke. Rone... i honestly can barelly remember him. Then there is linda who manages to be relevant only by lacking any sense.
3. In a world of gray it gives me some sense of security to paint things black and white. Not that i can't leave without them but its hard to reach conclusions otherwise due to too many variations and tributaries and stuff like that. But i should have said contrasting not opposing. What i mean to say is i don't follow one or another or really any ethical system at least not consistently. Also i know little of virtue ethics but that example irks me a bit, if you're trying to make the best choice in a moral dilema are you not automatically trying to be a better person? I understand the rationale behind, "if you dont know which to choose you are not virtuous, if you were you would know what to choose" what i dont get is the part where it says "you're better off focusing on developing positive character traits in yourself so that making good decisions will come naturally to you." By trying to make the right choice you seem to be doing that automatically.
4. X was actually one of my favorite characters in avernum. Along with cheeseball. He is relativelly isolated from the world with his research. And when all the characters around change or die the world might be ending but he is still there focused on his dream of making the mist kickass spell in the universe. So throughout the series he is one character that whenever i see its like meeting an old friend that you dont see in a long time and realise that your relationship is still the same and they didnt change much over time. Its really refreshing. He was my coping mechanism with erika's fate. I found it amusing when he tried to get me to dispel a demon he summoned and the demon was like; nah, lemme enjoy my vacation. Its a quaint little place we have here. He also seems to be the only person completelly unnafected by being sent to avernum. I dont even think he noticed it at all.
5. I still think that it sometimes lesser of two evils as well as outcome reggardless of means is a subjective call in such a way even utilitarian arguments erase the view. Same in case of the world peace through human extinction argument as well as if the one person is a doctor or the person to find the cure for cancer. Utilitarian arguments are all nice and dandy but i strongly believe they can only be used if you fully understand the consequences of your actions, which you rarelly to never do. Not that i am for kantianism(kant speak for oposite of utilitarianism right?) I just thing no matter what you choose its really up to chance if it was a good choice or not. Edit: Also that which is the lesser of two evils might also be a subjective call
6. Hey! cheeseball has a kickass personality thank you very much. Its prolly why solberg is boring, with being overshaddowed people tend to not try at all. But still you arent showing enough apreciation to it. 12 is more proper Also thats who anastasia is! I was really impressed by her. Only not enough to remember apparently. Still that kind of detail for background characters is why i liked avernum.
7. You all have horrible taste -.-' Jk, i was surprised with some view however.
8. Also pointing out on ends justify the means thing, calling trajkovites terrorists and the most evil faction in the game series is sort of a hypocrite move since they don't do any worse than the rebels themselves. Actually the only horrifying thing they did is make sure a rebel plan came through. The rebelion in g5 is not validated at all, the ending was unrealistic, silly and rather moot and pointlesz with better options with less bloodshed available.
9. Im almost sure you need pro rebel lean to join the trajkovites
10. Yah, what i wrote was mostly agreeing with you. And i dont think rawal was to be likable but honestly cant dislike him. I am not imune to the mob effect against him but on my own i dont like or dislike him. But you are right when you say he is the incarnation of traditional shaper arrogance. Honestly more fitting to shema, Strongly reminds me of Perdon Nial from wheel of time. In any case i believe rawal is one of the least hateable characters in geneforge series. About Ghaldrin, on geneforge 4 he was alright albeit having had low air time and his personality comming across as a bit bland but with potential. But on g5 he ends up mirroring rentar inhro in a4. And less original, he faded into the same place as most drakons with being arrogant and greedy and with disregard for other life forms as well as being openly rude and testing about you they set a nice potential for him on 4 as someone i can respect and then ruin him on 5. Ruin the whole rebelion on 5. One of the reasons i strongly disliked g5 was him. Also no, he was one of the drakons that realised the need of a unified rebelion. He was confident but not necessarilly full of himself at least on 4. Even with Salassar he was quite clear that the player was a tool but he didnt diminish the fact that he needed you and you needed him.
11. Allright thrice born phoenix. But exactly on the first game with natural selection forcing the serviles into sentiency you may not agree with their actions but you cannot discard them, they thought it through and reached conclusions. Which are not all that bad, i mean, you a trainee shaper can still be influenced by said unknown people. And a 10 year old can run away from home and start a life on his own if he comes from an abusive household. Sure a 10 year old doesnt have a great shot at survival but you cant say they had no right to run. Specially if there are no protective services. Specially in a society where if you complain about it to other authorities you can be labeled as a rogue and killed because you are supposed to obey and enjoy obeying. On the first game the only reason to be pro shaper is pitty for the obeyers which otherwise would be ill treated or dead. But on the first game shapers have no redeeming factors. Still on the second game the only shapers around sorta created the problem. Which easilly labels them as hypocrites on that game but in that case you can strongly argue for shaper laws.
12. I think most hate towards rawal goes for psrsonal reasons due to the pc. But come on folk. The pc is g5 is giganticly lame. I cant feel for him at all. Like... dude's lame. And i actually like rawal because he is the only "faction" not self absorbed by his own ideology on what is right and martyrdom. Literally everyone else seems in love with the idea of being a martyr. He is very pragmatic and i guess the only person who will make a choice based wit rather than feelings, that being said he doesnt have much wit, how did he figure the drakons would skip him i dont know. But i prefer him better than Shema( rly dood you should be high councilor of the most powerfull prosperous etc... magocracy in history and in the world, not some old stale fart lacking skill and power enough to zap a mosquito and lets not go to the lack of influence. In g5 only Ghaldrin and Taygen have bigger places in my hate organ. As opposed to heart.
13. Allright we don't know enough about it. And it is relativelly similar to the metris spiral in terms of well lotsa stuff. But idk, I would think the corruption and the voice are as separate as a human being and and its voice and other means of comunications. Still on the grounds of its huge ambiguity and the fact that we dont understand it, we can pretend its not a character. But if it plays a relevant role in avadon 3 im eyeing y'all with much judgement. Also Khyryk sorta is the standart bearer there. Much more memorable than shorass, but im not sure you have the trajkovite ending option without the forgetable drayk. On geneforge 3, the creators and the twin minds are relativelly powerfull local powers but their complete lack of personality might not put them under characters.
14. I still am for shorass as faction leader if anything else because he is a faction leader. And the corruption, because its intriguing, confusing, powerfull entity is one of they main reasons i play the series. But personal bias appart. The thing slawlows citties whole, steal souls, corrupts, talks and thinks, idk... Most faction leaders in all of sw games are not nearly as powerfull. I think this deserves local power. On geneforge 4 the infiltrators were local powers of sorts and i figure all woth personality enough to be rated. Also i cant remember the name of the necromancer across the river by drahmon fortress on the eastern galery. He appears in a4 and a6. Not sure about the rest. Can he be considered a local power?
15. I think after that last one i officially give up. I cant connect the rest and any further attempt of mine would spoil the fun with being simply chance. Also i agree with lilith idea but a warning the day before would also be of great help. At least for me.
16. 380. Public Display of Anomia-Showing off my plastic identity. Plastic can mean with the ability to take a form, as in plasticine the clay kids use to build different things. Maybe its a reference on the number of different names you use?
17. Dammit! I was sure the first two were right and second two were wrong. Also, i who happen to have perfect teeth wpuld never know that of course
18. 398. Long Cons and Massive Clocks - Make PDNs Great Again. You need time and a plan to make PDNs Great again. If you manage to convince people only based on your confidence and play on their ambition and naïvety you will make PDNs great. And they shall rule the world again and reward their faithfull worshipers.
19. 402. Intelligence Toes Painful to remove Any kinda toes are painfull to remove mister! >.>
20. 390. Septic Paladin - TM cousin, perhaps from Silvar or Shayder To be completelly honest if it was from almaria i would go for the sickness or yellow shade. Since silvar had the fear shade i make no sense of it. Only that septic paladin must be a way to avoid a possibly trademarked name which would point a possibly obvious relation to silvar and shayder(whose identity i am yet to discover)
21. 378. Characters not permitted - Amille Aglia looks for easy money in an RPG Again might be my personal bias against(Edit: or better stated; agressive mixed feelings about) her. In any case characters are a very important part of roleplaying games. Almost as important as choice. Restricting their existance might cost money or earn some. For instance lack of memorable characters will deffinitelly cost an rpg, while removal of a controversial one or one aimed at a specific demographic but with the ability to repulse others might be the economically safe thing to do. (In portuguese there is an expression that translates to "saltless" is all I think on "safe" characters) in any case, i am not sure how she could get money from this since she seems openminded about controversial things but she could deffenitelly make a critique on sexual censorships in games as well as call the people responsible for economic prudency on use of controversial characters gutless.
22. 380. Public Display of Anomia - Make PDNs Great Again Anomia is a kind of amnesia where you forget names. Maybe its a poke on how publicly displayed names are becoming irrelevant over time and people dont pay the mind anymore. Edit: Dude above pointed out already
23. 387. Spilt Ilk - A reference to long-departed cartoonists Same as with milk there is no point in crying over long departed cartoonists?
