  1. In Geneforge 4 I recall that using the Geneforge twice would lead to death as it attempts to write changes that have already been made. Why is it that you are able to use the Geneforge when fighting the Presence Servile? I thought that the player character had already used the forge in their past? Is this explained later in the game?

  2. Trainers in G1 and G2 wouldn't give you the second level if you used a canister or book first. G3 changed it so you could do it in either order.

So you are okay. It pays to save before using a canister so you don't make a mistake since I had to replay a few hours when I used a canister first before training.

Thanks! So this means that the canisters will bring me to level 3 after training two levels? Happy to hear that its more clear cut in the third installment.

  3. Hi!

Having played Geneforge 1 in the past I can remember some nasty business with canisters and maxing skills - something along the lines of being unable to get the best skill level if you trained before using canisters. Is this the same in G2? I bloody well trained a ton of skills to level 2 earlier :( I shouldn't have done that should I?

  4. Well after much being annoyed at myself for clumsy skill point distribution, I decided to use the editor and reallocate skill the skill points that I feel I misused.

I wish there was a re-trainer in this game like in Avadon. I think i'm just going to drop all my valuables on the floor in front of an npc and pretend that they carried out the service frown

  5. Well I figured it out! I had to raise mechanics to 11 which I did to deactivate the crystals which reduces the range of the mine and allows you to walk around them. I thought originally that this wouldn't work because the mines still explode, but they don't explode as easily now smile

  6. Thanks for the responses guys, I got so far but have reached mines that can't be danced around so i'm going to have to leave this level and assume that the Ancient Crypt is not meant to be cleared yet. Perhaps there is a way to deactivate the mines in a nearby level.

  7. Hello all,

I have never gotten the hang of safely detonating mines in Geneforge 1, I have brown and green spore batons which seem hit and miss to me. Sometimes I could take out a concert hall of mines with a little shake of my baton but then other times it yields me nothing but an eventual head rolling.

On the Ancient Crypt level for example ( I think thats the one) there are many strong green mines with the wiggly hairs on top that only explode if my shaper gets too close (not creations, though i've been known to take a few of them with me). I can't progress through the upper parts of this level because I can't remove the mines blocking me and the green spore batons won't function unless I get close enough for the blast to kill me.

Does anyone have any advice on how to approach these things? (and survive, I should add)
