I beat the game for the first time! I first bought it at least 5-6 years ago, so this is quite an accomplishment. I have also played Avernum (1) several times, and never finished it. So I feel good.
However, I also feel a little unfulfilled. I played a guardian, and I think I spent my points somewhat wisely. But I couldn't master the Shaper's Crypt. I'd go in, do one fight, head back to town, and repeat. I eventually ended up hitting combats I just couldn't win (I didn't use pods or spores because I hadn't yet won and didn't know if I'd need to store 'em up for the end).
I started feeling very cheap about my tactics, picturing my poor character walking all the way back to Kazg or Pentil after 5 minutes or less in the tomb.
I've seen people mention they've beaten these. Obviously pods and spores would help, but, otherwise: HOW? Where did I stat up wrong?
Can't wait to play 2 - 5!
I hope these images post...
Finally beat the game, but not the Shaper Crypt...

Thanks for the feedback!
I don't know if I actually put any points into Dex--I do know I fed some skill points to that drayk near the beginning, and I won't be doing that again anytime soon.
I don't think I'm going to go back and beat the Shaper Crypt/Inner Crypt. I guess the point of it would be to build my character up for the final conflict, which he was already more than prepared for.
I have to say, having finally beaten the game, it did something I've wanted to see in a game for a long time.
Spoiler--
By the end of the first Mass Effect, I had bumped my dialogue skills as much as possible. When I made it to the final boss, I sincerely hoped to talk my way out of it. Apparently, this was impossible.
Final boss (ish) in Geneforge--tricked him into killing himself. No boss fight (sort of--he had some moderate-difficulty minions).
That was a good role-playing experience.

Thanks again for the feedback! I'm looking forward to G2!
