oooh I haven't done nathalies quest yet, either way I'm still going to ask her to marry me.

well nikki getting out of your chair is too much effort! and what redundancy is there for a house fire? or @master1 a hard drive failure or format? I recently got a new computer and had to load up a new windows (64bit) but with steam I just backed up my 90 odd games and put them on in the space of an hou, saves me having to chuck in a bunch of cd's.
it's the digital age man, quit living in the past! except for jeff's games, they're an ok example of the past to continue using...

yeah I really dislike the idea of having to log into a new service for every different game I have. And considering how often my bfbc2 games don't happen because I can't connect to EA i'm definitely not going to be happy with using their service. A single centralised service is very handy, but I can see how it would monopolize the market and cause issues, and yes I agree that it's annoying to buy something retail but require online verification for it but most of the game are online multiplayer now anyway.

Yeah I'm prety happy with steam, used to get annoyed about needing it when i bought a game off a shelf, but it is handy to have a centralised account for my games. I'd be annoyed more to have 5 accounts with different publishers all because they couldn't learn to share.
edit: solution; just buy spiderweb software games from now on, they're all you will need

I just ran a contest for my friends and accquaintances on FB and G+, first person to answer correctly got a copy of avadon to their steam account. Because it was so cheap I thought why not gift a few copies
Also the contest was testing how much actual video game knowledge they have, it was a zork related question. i'm such a swiptser.

I can't see it being revenue, it'd make much more sense to be unit based. It's a popularity contest after all

HAHA yeah avernum 3 with its above ground activities *sneer*
I loved the caves but I also liked the sparse adventures the above ground offered. It's really not much more different than brightness and a colour palette -
I remember the Avernum 3 demo lasting forever :S
I feel as though the choice to not include the animations was more to fit the aesthetic of the game. I mean to keep it in the style that it's always had. Also I don't see it as being that detrimental to the game, but I'm all for the classic look.

haha dantius I agree, steam has been good to promoting independent developers, but now we're seeing them become the desired option.
Goldking I wasn't really disagreeing with Jeff's niche market plans, just saying that to compete in the general market, you need to have low prices and flashy games. I think it's just one of the negative effects of expanding a consumer base.

It's just the way with indie games nowadays. To stay competitive you need to bend to the set price points. I don't think steam will be fruitful enough at a price higher than $10, the gameplay and graphics (as much as I love them!) just wont convince new users to take a second look at it compared to the other flashier titles out there. When I first saw the banner I thought eww what's this dated thing must be some no-name euro group trying to make an rpg. I clicked on it out of boredom and saw a familiar iso setup and then saw the words spiderweb software and began drooling
But that's because I've played exile/avernum, so I know already that this game will satisfy my gaming NEEDS. But charging $20 or more, most people will just skim over it if they don't recognise it, and go for a $30 ageing AAA title that has a decent multiplayer base for their replayability.
Is this a good thing for indie developers? Well it gets them more exposure, so I'd say yes.

I like it the way it is, I used to play exile 2 crystal souls (the shareware at least) and this reminds me of it. I don't need super 3d graphics to enjoy the humongous amount of game.

Hi all, new here. Saw avadon on steam and said "hey that looks like exile!" (well, avernum.) then when I saw it was spiderweb software I bought it straight away.
Nothing of particular note, just thought I'd post to say it's awesome.
How about online game

Here's a shot of a test mmo I was building that drew heavily on the visuals of Exile/avernum
