  1. I'm with Fael on the switches being too hard to see. I don't play games so I can think more about how my vision is deteriorating as I grow old.

One suggestion would be: make switches a little easier to see as lockpicking skill goes up. Or, make switches a little easier to see.

I don't get Fael's complaint about moving the camera, though. I am not a big gamer but you scroll the window by hitting the edge of the display with your mouse in every full-screen commercial game I can think of.

I do have one suggestion about navigating with the area map. I know you can jump the window to a new location by clicking in the mini-map, but I often found myself trying to click in the area map while I had the tab key down. Let me do that!

  2. I had trouble with the Orian quest on my first runthrough also. I followed and harassed Orian out in the woods without receiving the quest from the castle. Then a bit later I met him somewhere (forgot where) and fought him and his two pets. Only after that did I meet the person who gives the quest to find him, but I was not able to tell that person I'd already found him and beaten the stuffing out of him.

  3. This dungeon would have been easier if I had done more side-questing (and leveling up) before heading down into the pits. I think I am paying too much attention to the NPC dialogue and not enough to the map designs.

This is my first play through. I picked Hard because A6 was a little too easy for me on Normal. But I think I am more of a Normal guy in Avadon, at least until I get a handle on how I want to train my characters.

  4. I have been doing fine up until this opponent. My level 13 characters can't damage him enough from a distance to overcome his healing. I assume we are supposed to do something with the wheels but just reaching the south busted wheel my characters are beat half to death and we get bogged down trying to fight to the north wheel - too easily ensnared.

The game has taken a nosedive from fun to frustrating.

  5. I like bows better than most people seem to. My priest and wizard settled on the bows with submission and acid effects, respectively. I like to go a long time between town visits (and I like to hoard energy potions), so those weapons allow my spellcasters to stay 'productive' outdoors and in other low-risk areas. Acid is a great 'value' in battles against large groups of weaker monsters.

  6. If I could make one suggestion it would be that enemies who have a choice between melee and ranged attacks quit committing suicide once they notice a player has used Arcane Shield / Spineshield / Battle Crystal et. al. Actually, was this less of a problem in A6 than A5 or did I simply get Arcane Shield later in A6?

Also, this thread reminds me of my favorite Jeff Vogel quote from years gone by:

    Quote:
I write my AI in, oh, say, 5-10

minutes. Usually while drunk. In other

words, I put twice as much effort in my AI as

    everyone else.

  7. Toward the end of the game I had the same idea to try to clear the lands outside the city. I approached and then ran away from the "Horde Protector" encounters that pop up (with dialogue message) a couple of times.

Eventually I tried to face them, but they were inflicting 500-600 points of damage on every swing even on 'Casual' difficulty. Anybody else have this experience?
