If you don't help a Hand do a personal quest the way the want, then they won't help you at the very end. This may be significant depending what you decide to do.

You needed to do most equipment changes in Avadon before the Hand quest because that is the only place to shift scarabs and it is easier to give them equipment without filling up all your slots.

There are two different Shaman builds. A combat (left side skills) and a creation version (right side skills) so it depends upon you playing style. Best available items that they can use for armor and weapons. Some players just use Shamans as a support  character to provide healing.

Thanks! Do Shamans need to emphasize int over the rest of their attributes? And should she use wands or weapons?

  2. My primary question is if Nathalie's peevishness that we're going to help Jenell and not doing and official Avadon quest will end up being significant. Secondly, I didn't expect to have Jenell forced into my party, so I have no equipment for her nor do I know how to level her. What should her stats and skills look like ideally, and what equipment (that's available at this stage) should I put on her? Thanks!

Equipment usually increases damage unless it has some other bonuses. Eventually you will find or be able to buy better equipment.

If you have been increasing Dexterity, then avoid getting into melee and try to kill from a distance. Dexterity and Endurance will help you evade getting it. There are also augmentations to equipment that will increase those stats and increase evasion in general.

Always improve armor to reduce damage, Also improve the middle column skills on all characters to improve damage and reduce what damage you get. The bottom left skill increases damage too.

Try to talk to everyone to get quests for money and other rewards. Eventually you will get enough money, but it is tight in the beginning.

Thanks! Does the retrain cheat break the game? Nathalie has been teleporting around the battlefield since using it. Any thoughts on keeping her alive longer? I haven't found better armor for her yet.

  4. My main character, a shadow walker, is starting to miss a lot more and take much more damage, even with high dexterity. I've been using the same steel short sword and steel razordisk for many levels now. Is it equipment, or is it my stats/skills that I should change? I've focused him on Dex and some Endurance, eschewing strength.

My next question is, for Nathalie, should I equip a shield on her? She dies really easily. I've just been putting all her stat points into Intelligence, but should she have some of the other three as well?

My last question is what I should be doing to make money. I did a quest a few hours ago that had a "reward" where someone would raise my skills for the paltry sum of 3000 coins each. I take a beating on all the loot I sell and I keep having to buy supplies.

    Thanks for any guidance.

Dexterity helps with bows and to evade getting hit by most damage types. Get Archery Training  and Path of the Blade to increase damage in general.

To fix the character save a game

    - click on the character and use shift and d to bring up the cheat code box and then enter retrain to reset the character.

Thank you. Is it too much to focus stat points on strength, dexterity AND endurance for when he has to tank, or does the game give enough points?

Dexterity or endurance for resistance to other damage types works fine.

Un-optimized specialization can usually still work out. Equipment can fix some problems when you get near the final items.

Oh, I meant dex for effective bow usage, at least I think that was the required stat. And what is the best specialization choice for this kind of Sevelin build? And can it be re-specced if I chose poorly? Thanks.

Sevelin or other Blademaster make excellent archers for the later abilities that can do extra damage, but you don't want to make him exclusively one. When you get swarmed and surrounded, you need to do enough melee damage to break free.

Okay, thanks! He's level 8 for me, and I've put all his stat points into strength so far. Is it okay to do dex for a few levels, or what should I have in mind? And is choosing the "wrong" or un-optimized specialization a deal breaker? Thanks again.

  8. I'm getting my butt KICKED on Veteran, and even when I drop down to Normal. I'm a level 7 guardian with most points into strength but almost as much into agility, endurance is 4. Melee and ranged weapons are at 6 and 5 respectively, I have 5 quick action, 4 leadership and 6 mechanics. My creations end up freaking out too much and dying too fast, so I've been going solo and keep hitting insane difficulty walls. I really want to re-spec this character. Any pointers?

  9. Hello, I am just messing around with the demo and was wondering if it's possible to "trim" the starting default party into having better skill distribution, or would I just have to create my own from scratch? I searched a little and didn't find anything conclusive. Thanks for any help.

  10. Maybe that's an audio term, but what I was wondering is, does anyone think it's likely that we will ever see the older Geneforge games re-created with the nice G5 engine?

Really just curious. I know the gameplay has not diminished, but the advances in the Geneforge engine really make it nice to use. Thanks.

  11. Cool, thanks for the replies! I just started a lifecrafter. When I played a little earlier, the beetles in the beginning went after other people and left me alone, and I squished them one by one. With my lifecrafter, they seem to want to go after me. Must just be one of those things.

I take it a lifecrafter doesn't want to put on the armor/shield from the beginning? Thanks again!

  12. I don't know if a servile is the best choice for a first run through G5, but I would like to try.

Is a missile-slinging servile a decent choice, or is it too limited i.e. if you get swarmed? I might also go for a magic servile, just trying to get the build worked out. I read a post just now about Servile builds, looked pretty good but I didn't read the whole thing. Any thoughts on being missile-centric would be great. Thanks!

  13. I was wondering if someone can recommend a sample party that is different from the default, pretty powerful, but doesn't take too much worrying to level up correctly. Hope that makes sense.

I usually use the default but I am looking for something new. Thank you.

  14. I was thinking of buying Avernum 4 to play on my work mac even though I would rather have it on pc. My question is, how does this party sound?

    1)Slith fighter

    2)Human fighter

    3)Nephil Priest

    4)Human Mage

I just don't know which feats and things to take. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!
