Well-Actually War Trall Acky
I know that increasing magic skills only lengthens the time of the spell, not strengths it, but what about spellcraft? Does the same go for that?
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
Spellcraft increases damage and chance to hit for damage spells the same as increasing battle magic. Spellcraft increase duration for blessing spells the same as increasing blessing magic. For mental magic it increases the chance of the spell working and hitting for essence shackles and for healing magic it increases healing. Well-Actually War Trall Acky
Sorry for the double post If I increase the skill itself, do I increase its power?
Understated Ur-Drakon Nioca
Yes, by the same amount as a level of Spellcraft or the appropriate spell skill.
Garrulous Glaahk pitchblack
Which is why getting more than 1 level in a skill is pretty much useless, unless it's really cheap.
Hatchling Cockatrice Alorael at Large
The formulas for spells (they're in the manual, mostly, so not very obvious) give a "bonus" or "spell strength" in the calculation. That bonus is the sum of the spell level, the relevant skill, and Spellcraft. —Alorael, who finds it somewhat funny that Jeff gives that one calculation explicitly while requiring empirical analysis to derive so much of the rest of the engine. Many other companies give you the rest but require you to take spells' effectiveness on faith.
