Well-Actually War Trall The Ratt
Does anyone know if the catacombs at the bottom of Khyryk's Burwood province can be entered, because it has always bugged me. I also would like to learn more about Terrestria's past.
Well-Actually War Trall Synergy
If I read your request correctly, you are looking for the nearby hidden lever that opens the crypt to the south of where Khyryk stands...yes? It's very nearby. Move your mouse cursor around behind things that could hide it from your god-like view, yet in reality, would leave it in plain sight of your character. -S-
Well-Actually War Trall The Ratt
Any idea where? I've tried that before.
Magnificent Ornk Dikiyoba
If Dikiyoba recalls correctly, it's somewhere behind the big pillar in the center of the room. Move your mouse slowly and watch for the highlighted lever to show up.
Well-Actually War Trall Synergy
And then be prepared to look for hidden levers like this all over the game, including places you've already been. Jeff likes to be sneaky like this, so pay close attention! -S-
Rotghroth Rhapsody Taliesin
Especially look for the one in Northforge, as you will need it to access the Black Key that Litalia stole from Monarch.

Well, you don't strictly need it. If you're a servile, you can probably just walk through the pylons and take the damage. Even a Lifecrafter can do it with full buffs and a little luck. Rotghroth Rhapsody Taliesin
True - elemental cloak would probably do just fine.
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
Levers aren't the only things hidden that way. There are a few boxes, sacks, and a body hidden by walls and hedges. Get in the habit of moving the cursor around after you've cleared a zone. Unflappable Drayk Zummi
If you don't know..be fore-warned that a strong(?) shade lurks at the back of Khyryk's Catacombs..
Well-Actually War Trall The Ratt
Thanks, though I think the only levers/items I haven't found are the black key lever and the Khyryk chambers one. Also what is the treasure that is in the Khyryk chambers, is it an item or canister?

Rotghroth Rhapsody Taliesin
Well, that depends. The knife is Tek's Spectral Dirk, which provides great damage protection and resistances. It doesn't deal a whole lot of punishment though - it's really a defense weapon. My first G4 character already had the puresteel soulblade by the time he got back there, so I never used the Dirk. Magnificent Ornk Student of Trinity
Tek's Spectral Dirk is a classic Geneforge item, since you took it from Tek (a spectral jerk) in G1. My fond theory that it is that same item you find in each successive game was unfortunately challenged when I collected two of them once, I think in G3. Garrulous Glaahk DokEnkephalin
For a pure Shaper who uses their creations as their muscle, it is pretty tempting. For all other character types, it's completely overshadowed by the time you get it, in damage and bonuses. Even for a pure Shaper, there are other weapons that greatly improve your support magic, and you should've learned to coordinate your creations well enough to evade attacks anyway. Not that it matters, but Dikiyoba thinks it was G2. But it's location in G4 kind of ruins "The PC is selling their equipment to finance a personal lab" theory too. Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
It was GF1 in the sealed lab where Tek was a canister junkie looking for life after death. I figured it got sold on Sucia Island and taken with into GF2 when some serviles came to Drypeak.
Magnificent Ornk Dikiyoba
Whoops. Dikiyoba meant that it was duplicated in G2, not G3.
Garrulous Glaahk DokEnkephalin
I know I didn't sell it. I always drop it on my stack of trophies. It must've been took by one of them Takers back on Sucia.

And I'm not quite sure what I opened with it. Nothing nearby or obvious.
Well-Actually War Trall Micawber
I have been reading this thread for four days and only just realised what room you are all talking about. (Duh, me no learn so fast.) Anyways turns out I never entered that room in any of my games, so time for each of my characters to go and clear it out... The Lifecrafter finds this pathetically easy, his wingbolts and drakons escorts kill the shade in the first round before it even has a chance to summon its undead friends. The Servile gets in a good hit and is annoyed to see he has been slowed. However, as his first move was to mass energize his drayk pets, the shade still dies in the second round, before any of its friends gets a chance to act. The singleton Infiltrator casts two kill spells, shrugs off the attacks of the summoned undead, casts kill twice more; end of combat. The good thing about Tek's spectral dirk is that you can get the benefit of its defensive capabilities without sacrificing your attack effectiveness: by storing it in a quick use slot you can exploit a bug to get the benefit of the +10 damage avoidance without equipping it. Whoa, this is huge. I don't remember hearing about this exploit before. You could throw four magic weapons in there for all kinds of accumulated boons. -S-
Magnificent Ornk Dikiyoba
I think that's an A4-only exploit that was fixed in G4. I've never gotten any bonus to armor, creation dexterity, or blessing magic with the Captain's Shiv in my quick use slot. Dikiyoba.
Well-Actually War Trall Micawber
You're probably right; as damage avoidance is a hidden stat it isn't immediately obvious. Was a very useful bug in Avernum 4, though
