Rotghroth Rhapsody Uberdhizon
I have never played Blades of Avernum, and I don't know what it really is. Can someone explain?
Easygoing Eyebeast Enraged Slith
You make a party and tackle adventures like the other Avernums except you play individual scenarios (Vogel and player made) versus one giant epic. You can make your own scenarios, custom content, etc. and play em.
Hatchling Cockatrice Alorael at Large
It's this. —Alorael, who will contribute slightly more by saying that its mostly a tool for the creation and playing of scenarios, which are mini (or not so mini) games in the style of Avernum 3. If you'd like to try your hand at making an Avernum, it's good. If you want to play what other people have made, it's good.
Rotghroth Rhapsody Uberdhizon
So it's like an editor for Avernum? Quote: in the style of Avernum 3. I've played that one, and it seemed a little old. Do you think they'll make a new Blades of Avernum?
Hatchling Cockatrice Lilith
It's not likely that there'll ever be another Blades game. Blades of Avernum took so long to make and had such mediocre sales that it almost put Spiderweb Software out of business.
Rotghroth Rhapsody Uberdhizon
Oh. That sucks. The thought of Spiderweb going out of business... *shudder*
Understated Ur-Drakon Celtic Minstrel
There are some difference between Blades of Avernum and Avernum 3. For example, a slightly different spell set (no Capture Soul).
Hatchling Cockatrice Alorael at Large
It's not an editor for A3, as you can't change A3 itself or access its data. You instead get access to an almost identical engine and tools to make towns and outdoors, change monsters, write dialogue, set up scripts, create items, and generally make whatever Avernum-like game you can design and implement. —Alorael, who supposes your mileage may vary. While the A5 combat is better, he still thinks the Nethergate/Avernum engine is his favorite overall.
