TJ's stats for shaper

Investing in leadership and mechanics early on is a very good idea, as long as you're strong enough to handle the combat.

Intelligence is always a good bet for a shaper, and it's not a bad idea to pump at least one shaping skill to high levels. Make sure you have enough magical skills to cast the spells you want to cast, and maybe a little Spellcraft to give them some extra accuracy and power. Endurance isn't really very useful for a shaper; a point or two later in the game can be helpful, but there's really no need to invest in it early on. If you want to protect yourself better, it's okay to put a couple of points in Strength so you can wear heavier armour, but don't overdo that either. The main things you should be concentrating on are intelligence and shaping skill.

As a shaper, you really do want all the intelligence you can get: if you don't need to spend skill points in anything else right away, spend them on Intelligence. Don't raise shaping skills higher than 10: the benefits start decreasing above that. Apart from that, just raise whatever skills you're using more. For example, if you don't have enough battle magic to cast a spell you want to cast right now, raise battle magic.

Bzzzt! This is Geneforge 1. Although the benefits do start decreasing, the cost never increases, so even raising a stat from 20 to 23 for one actual improvement is cheaper than in G5, without the 10- and 20-caps. Also, remember that you get TWICE the value from bonus levels as from gained levels, for your creations.

My advice for a G1 Shaper is to put all your points into either Magic or Fire Shaping for a while. You can make Artila (or Cryoa) at extremely high levels early on, and you will breeze through everything. Then, when you are higher level, you can start to pump Intelligence and gradually make stronger creations, and finally max out your chosen shaping stat. You just make new creations when you get level ups or use new canisters, instead of keeping hte old ones around all the time.

Did you read the posts?

Put alot into intelligence and either fire or magic shaping. Put a few points into mechanical and leadership (about 10 each?) Put enough points into Blessing magic so that you can bless and haste your creations before a fight.

Don't worry about strength or any other silly stats since your Shaper is going to be a pack mule.
