mrmazzo
I am thinking to restart A5 (I hate gladwell geas )... So I noticed that with custom type character you get something like 9 skill points less than standard ones... so... I wonder if it worth to use custom made chars, keeping in mind that with minimal effort in the first level, you can correct stats to match the char you like - at least for me, because my custom ones are not so different. And what about special traits? Are they worth enough to sustain the big exp penalty they give? Thank you. PS sorry for my english PPS For example Custom Berserker like char with same abilites: only 3 spare points Berserker: 8 spare points, one point more in missile, one point more in bows. Lilith
The trouble is that a lot of the premade character classes have skills that are either completely useless, or just about useless until higher levels. By the time they level up enough that those skills become worthwhile, a few skill points won't make so much difference any more. Making a custom character means you can make a completely optimised character build at level 1, getting a lot of power early on in exchange for a slight disadvantage further down the track. Positive traits are usually worth getting even though they carry an experience penalty. The penalty isn't as bad as it sounds because higher-level characters get experience at slower rates (so characters with experience penalties won't ever be too far behind), and some traits are very powerful. In general, the traits worth considering are Divinely Touched, Elite Warrior, Natural Mage and Pure Spirit, in roughly that order from best to worst. Toby-Linn
I like making custom characters so I can get rid of useless skill points that the pre-made characters have. For instance, if you make someone a Solder, they have points in pole and sword fighting, even though you might only want them to know the sword. Same with a rebel, they have points in both, even though my slith is a rebel and I only want him to have pole skills.
Feo Takahari
Do keep in mind that you need both sword and pole to get Blademaster, which itself is a requirement for Lethal Blow. (Not that I ever got either, but that's because I didn't read the walkthroughs before developing my characters, with the result that I stunk at this game as usual with Spiderweb's output.) Toby-Linn
Oh yes, I forgot about that. But they don't have lethal blow in Avernums 1 - 3 do they? I guess that was what I was referring to.
Thrasher
Not even needed. You can get the skill trained up for money later in the game.
