Easter Eggs in Avernum (spoilers?)

Okay, so I've found the easter eggs in A2 and A3...

 

A2 is a portal code you find down a secret passage in the Abyss that brings you to a strange town, and A3 is when you put pants on a rune and step on another rune in Rentar Ihrno's keep and get sent to a strange smiley face area. Or maybe they're the other way around....

 

Does anyone know where the easter egg is in A1? Also, were there any for A4 and A5?

A1 doesn't have a major easter egg like the next two installments. The only A4 easter eggs I know of are the face-leaping spider mentions and a certain hidden string about certain inappropriate drones.

How would I search A3's strings? Is that a file in the game data folder?

 

And how would the A4 easter eggs work?

I'm not sure how to check strings on Windows. On a Mac with Clasic I used ResEdit. Now I suppose one would have to either use ResKnife (or equivalent) or some form of Classic emulation.

I just opened the gamefile in Notepad to see Anaximander's "rewards". This was with Exile 3 though, I think, so it might not work.

 

In A3, there is also a hidden dungeon you can get to by talking to a travelling bard in Lorelei Province.

Are you talking about Foxfire, who sells you the key to the Monastery of Madness?

 

If not, please elaborate as I am intrigued.

Monastary of Madness was an Exile/Avernum 3 artifact dungeon where Jeff got to indulge has martial art movie inside jokes.

You need to find Firefox as she wanders around north of Lorelei. I think you also needed to talk to someone in Lorelei to get a clue that she has access to the Monastary.

You have to talk to a series of people in Lorelei, starting with the innkeeper, until someone tells you to find Foxfire.

 

—Alorael, who supposes the Monastery of Madness counts as an easter egg. Does the VoDT room with the sign that tells you you shouldn't be able to read the sign count as well?

I think it does, Alorael, as does the one in Bandit Busywork.

 

The Monastery of Madness, despite being an Easter Egg, does have the best reward in the game, so it's well worth finding.

 

Edit: Or, at least, I'm sure that's were it's hiding.

I have my doubts about this being real. I can't check it now anyway because I bought the macintosh version way back when and am using a PC. Could someone provide pictures of the monastery?

It's real all right. Just look anywhere on the internet. For heaven's sake, Exile 3 has been around over ten years.

Now I remember it, Once I read about the "Anvil Throwing Room" it all came back. I was wrong about the monastery being a joke, But I do remember back when the miscellaneous forum was shut down there were all sorts of jokes, Like giant killer rats and such.
