Spartan-117
Okay I've seen many of you consider Avernum 5 to be great, that's fine, here's what I thought after trying it out. In mu opinion, the only thing going for Avernum 5, is the redone combat system, and plotline, other than that, I was hideously disappointed in it for one reason. The fact that the whole game, looks, feels, and is, Geneforge, I am aware Jeff put the Geneforge engine into avernum, but it just made it lose its feel of avernum you know? You couldn't jump off cliffs anymore(was especially disgusted by that one), you couldn't do so many things that were doable in the others! When you walked you looked screwy, I was especially disgusted by all the graphics, I mean come on, the hulking armor-clad dervishes turned into the lame-looking guardian model? Their supposed to look intimidating not... Bleh I'd give it a 5/10 out of the whole series, but I wouldn't bother spending my money on this. The combat system was great, the storyline was good, and the look and atmosphere stunk, this would have been an AMAZING game had it felt and looked like Avernum, not Averforge. Student of Trinity
Meh, to each their own. I find the older Avernum sprites tiny and fake-looking in comparison, and it takes a lot more effort to get concerned about them. And being asked whether I want to jump off a cliff, every time I reach an edge, drives me nuts.
Spartan-117
I understand what your saying, I mean getting asked was irritating, but in cases were it could be useful to jump off...and you can't... That's irritating, in Geneforge that's okay, cause usually you don't need to in any situation...their just aren't cliffs And yes some of the Avernum graphics are a little fake, some of them did give it a feel and looked awesome, I found the demons, dervishes, and ect looked way cooler. Lilith
I'm an old-time Exile fan, and I hated the Avernum engine and graphics and felt that only with Geneforge did SW's graphics become tolerable again. A5 has its problems, but as far as I'm concerned, the Geneforge graphics aren't one of them.
Hydromedia
It was never graphics that were important to me at all in SW games, its more the plotline to me. The redone combat system and redone plotline make A5 seem attractive if anything. Thats of course, coming from someone who dabbled in Avernum 4 and disliked it.
