Didgekim
Hello all, Just bought the game and have a few questions I couldn't answer by reading the forum : 1/ How do the stats affect the game mechanics (eg how much can you carry with a given strength? damage calculation? etc.) --> I ask this because I can't seem to make the right choices when spending xp 2/ Spells upgrades : i read they are worthless, but what do they do? 3/intelligence vs spellcraft vs magery : both are supposed to improve magic, but how exactly? 4/ editor : i understand that shift+D lauches the editor : is there a command list somewhere? Thx all, Didgekim
Darkdread
Hi and welcome, I can give you a little help, but let's hope those who understand the game better will post later too. 1. I usually use the stuff I like (bigger swords, steel javelins, better armors) and when I see that I am about to get encumbered, I decide to improve my strength points. So, The game in itself usually gives me the hint to "when it's time to improve" one characteristic according to the needs I see as the game progresses and the stuff I find. 2. I don't think they are so useless at the beginning of the game. If you analyze the "icy rain" mage spell. In the first level covers a small area, but as you buy improvements, that area increases and you can "rain" more enemies. The priest spell "summon shade" also brings a more powerful shade as you increase the improvements of that spell. 3. I tend to see magery/spellcraft pretty similarly, but intelligence is mostly good for increasing your energy points and resist charming or other mental spells. Hope this helps, greetings
Emmisary of Immanence
1. I'm not sure these have been compiled anywhere. Darkdread's suggestion might be the best one for carrying capacity. For the most part, looking around threads here (and particularly Strategy Central ) should help. 2. In spell formulas you can see the effect of "bonus" on the spell's power. The formulas are available in the manual. An additional level of the spell adds one to the bonus, so the effect is usually small. There's no reason not to pursue higher spell levels, but usually not with money. That can be spent better elsewhere. 3. Intelligence only increases your energy reserves, I believe. Spellcraft and Magery have exactly the same effect: each point in these skills increases the spell's bonus by one. 4. I'm sure there is, but I don't remember where. —Alorael, who hopes this helps a bit. And he hopes someone else comes along and helps more. I haven't been buying equipment. Should I be saving my money for trainers? I haven't run across any yet.
Taliesin
You want to save a LOT for skill trainers as they are generally very expensive (>1000 coins per level of just about anything).
Randomizer
The first trainer is Shankar at her Tower just after the Harston Docks. They are listed in the Strategy Central link. Spending money for equipment other than potions and scrolls is usually not a good idea. You can find enough armor and such if you wait.
