Anama Scrolls

Can't you fulfill Shafrir's request for the Anama scrolls first, which he gives you copies of to hand out, and then give a copy to Gladwell. Or will Gladwell only accept the originals?

Never tried it in that order, but it will probably work. Or you can keep them to give to Melanchion and just go kill Gladwell.

I don't see how this would work. If you have the geas from Gladwell, you can't leave the Anama lands (i.e., go into new areas). Shafrir doesn't appear until the Azure Gallery, 2 areas later.

My problem w/ the scrolls was different. I wanted to retrieve them later in the game after I killed Gladwell, and then either give them to Shafrir, Ruth, or Melanchion. But the game doesn't allow that.

You only need to get the Anama scrolls for the geas to stop working on giving a curse. Delivery can be done after you reach Muck or a later point.

 

I ran once where I got the Anama scrolls and the Radiant prism from Muck before going to see Gladwell, If you don't have Gladwell's geas, then you should be able to get the Anama scrolls later in the game without any problem. Ruth will take something else like letting Tholmen live. Shafrir can release you from the Anama geas so you can steal the scrolls so getting them later isn't a problem.

Looks like I completely misunderstood how the geas was supposed to affect me

Ah, but you can not do Shafrir's quest if you have the geas. He just won't give it to you. You would have to not get the geas until you've reached him, then go back and do all the other geas items, which, as was pointed out in another thread, can be buggy.
