rampancy
I'm having a devil of a time trying to take down both Persephone and Gelmax - for some reason I just can't seem to hack it, especially with Persephone - the last time I tried to kill her she zapped me with lightning. Are there any general hints that people have to offer for dealing with these and other especially powerful enemy magic users? I'm still trying to un-learn some of the habits that I developed when I played Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale to disrupt enemy magic users... Taliesin
Steelskin everyone and use melee against them.
Zummi
Welcome to SpidWeb Boards. Leave your sanity at the door. And if you're having a devil of a time here, you'll have a lot more in the future battles. My tactics usually is to enter the fight in battle mode as to have an advantage(a free turn in special encounter fights) and mass buffing everyone(War Blessing, Shielding, Hasting) before entering the battle. As Taliesin said, engage them in melee but be careful with Gelmax. He's a shaman, meaning he can cast that spineshield of death.
Randomizer
Repeatedly slow your enemy mage so they spend time hasting. Spray acid so they spend time healing. You can use missle weapons and spells in melee to counter spine shield. Summon creatures can help but they are stupid.
rampancy
Thanks for the help, guys. I finally got through Gelmax and Persephone - yes, what got me through Persephone was hasting my melee fighters and having them engage her at close range, along with acid spray; with Gelmax I think I used slow to great effect. I took a peek at the GameFAQs guide for A5 a few minutes ago - I think I need to pay someone a visit to pick up Lightning Spray...
Toby-Linn
Yeah, I do the normal haste, bless, steel skin (augment if it's going to be a toughie) before getting into combat. I send my soldiers after the magic casters first because they can really mess up my party with their lighting sprays and slows more than the fighters. Either that, or try to get them with bolt of fire, acid spray, slow, lightning spray before they have a change to cast anything too damaging at you. Normally the first couple of rounds they're usually hasting and blessing their own fighters.
