Seasoned Roamer Steel Maverick Posted February 28, 2021 Share Posted February 28, 2021 I've just gotten to Pentil through Pentil Plains instead of Pentil Woods which involves clearing the rogues out of west gate. There's a servile who would normally give you the quest to clear out the gates except there's now no option to receive the quest because said gate has already been cleared. Ineffable Wingbolt mikeprichard Posted February 28, 2021 Share Posted February 28, 2021 I found this out the hard way as well: as mentioned in the index of locations/quests etc. at Strategy Central (https://spiderwebforums.ipbhost.com/topic/26276-geneforge-1-index-spoilers/), this is a somewhat unique quest in that you have to talk with the quest giver before completing the quest-related action, otherwise you won't get the quest/reward at all. If you don't talk to the serviles in their southern camp (within the plains) before you attack the gate, you don't (obviously) get the option (with enough Leadership) to have them help you clear the gate. If you clear the gate (with or without talking to them) they will then make a break & run to the gates. The best way (xp wise) I found to do things was enter the zone, talk to the serviles & convince them to help, then 'do not' tell them to help you & go kill most of the rogue guards yourself. When there's only a couple of them left, go back & tell the serviles that it's time for them to help (and get the xp for that), then race ahead of them & kill the remaining rogues/guards so that the serviles don't get wiped out & make it into town. So yes, if you've cleared the gate, you won't be able to talk to the serviles as they've run into Pentil. If you talk to them & completely clear the gate, you'll probably clear the quest, but you won't get the xp for telling them to come help you. You can do the deed for "Find Source of Vlish" before even talking with Godwin, and still complete the quest/get the rewards from him later.
