Nobear
There's an electric chair in Ornotha Ziggurat, and when I sit in it I get 4x this message: "One character is affected by the power of the chair." The dialogue text indicates that my characters should feel stronger but stupider, yet I don't see any change to stats, traits or special items. Maybe I've been affected by the power of the chair, because I can't figure it out.
Lilith
Check the Magic tab of your skills: it's a permanent +1 bonus to Magical Efficiency to all characters.
Nobear
With no downsides? Wow. Not what I'd expect an electric chair to do .
Lilith
I mean, Magical Efficiency isn't the best skill in the world, but the price is right. I think it does also drain a small amount of experience from all characters, but you can always just fight a few battles to earn that back. Punctuation rains from the heavens
It looks like the dialogue wasn't quite updated from Avernum 2, when the annotated maps tell us: The room to the north has two special chairs. The left one gives +1 strength and -100xp for the active character, and the right one give +1 dex and -100xp for the active character. Nobear
I retested it, and it seems to be -500xp per character. How much is a wisdom crystal worth? I'm wondering if this is worth it now. Maybe not...
Punctuation rains from the heavens
Whoa. -500xp? Flat out? That's crazy. I wonder if you can visit it when you've just levelled up, to avoid a high experience cost?
Nobear
Yeah now that'd be nice. I think I'll try that, or else wait till my party hits 30.
Nobear
Nope. Just went back after my whole party had less than 200 xp after previous level. The chair still set them each back 500 xp, so that the next level for all was over 1k away. I'm thinking it's not worth it.
Punctuation rains from the heavens
Wow. Yeah, that's nuts. Magical Efficiency is not far from +5% SP per level... even after level 30 that doesn't seem worth it.
Gharbad the handsome
Is there massive spellpoint inflation compared to Jeff's past games? I never seem to run out of energy and i'm pretty sure I had to manage my energy better in past games. If so I guess that contributes to magical efficiency being weak.
