Can't read Pyrn's red book or Thompson's note in Blosk

I wanted to double check that I'm not missing something here before I post in tech support:

 

I have DB 3, MM 3, Deciphering Lens, Blessed Athame, 12 AL from 4 Sage Lore, 3 Vahnatai lore, and when this became a problem I tried chugging all my wisdom crystals on one character to get them to L35 for 1 actual level of AL.

 

No dice. When I read Pyrn's red book or the note on Thompson's dresser in Blosk it says my party can't understand it.

 

I have the quest for both of them.

 

Am I missing something simple/any thoughts?

You need at least 2 actual Arcane Lore to read the book in the southwest corner of Pyrn's room: Sage Lore and Vahnatai Lore don't count. I'm not sure about Thompson's note, but try that one with 2 Arcane Lore as well, since that was how much I had and I didn't have any problem reading it.

 

Honestly, if I were in your position I'd just use the character editor and feel no guilt about it, because it's pretty obnoxious how the game requires actual Arcane Lore for plot-important things without warning you that the trait that's normally a substitute for it doesn't count.
