Spiderweb Scattergories, round three

Rules: At the beginning of the round, a random letter will be selected. You can then create and submit your answer card. For each category, you may put down up to TWO answers, both of which will be scored. In general, points will be awarded as follows:

+ 1 point for a valid answer that begins with the correct letter

+ 2 points for a valid answer where multiple words, including the first word, begin with the correct letter

+ 1 bonus point will occasionally be awarded for answers the round organizer finds particularly interesting (typically 1 per question, but this can vary depending on the answers)

There are, however, some restrictions:

- If more than one person gives the same answer, those answers are eliminated and receive no points. Thus, putting down answers that are more unusual, is rewarded.

- You may not use the same answer (or a slight variation on one answer) for multiple categories.

- You may not use superfluous adjectives in your answer (e.g., "really big doghouse" for R)

- Articles (a, an, the) do not count as part of the answer. ("The Beatles" counts for B, not T.)

- For names, you can count either the first or last name: Biff Tannen and Tallulah Bankhead would both count for B and T alike. Titles do not count unless they are effectively the person's name. "Darth Vader" would be acceptable even though he technically has a name, but "Captain Picard" would not -- "Picard" or "Jean-Luc Picard" would be used.

- Obviously, the answer has to legitimately fit the category. If you have questions about this, feel free to PM me. (That will send me an email. Posts here may take longer to get a response.)

Whoever gets the most points wins. When I announce the winner, I will post the answer cards with the scoring breakdown.

To submit your answer card, copy the following list of categories, write in your answers, and send me the whole thing in a PM titled "Answer card, round 3." I will only accept one answer card from each participant, so fill it out completely and make sure you are happy with your answers before you turn it in. Answer cards will be accepted from now until this time on Sunday the 22nd. I will calculate and post the scores as soon as I can.

Clarifcations:

01 - It has to be a discrete ability a character can activate, i.e., "Strength" would not count, and neither would "attack."

03 - Someone legitimately known as a poet

10 - It could be well known for any number of reasons: being large, significant to government, famous for an industry, etc.

In general, just use your best judgement and PM if you have questions

Gah, it was hard enough to find one answer for almost all of them that wouldn't get kicked out as a match with someone else. I'll resubmit, but it will only add about 4 second answers.

All these years watching television, and it's over 45 years, and I could only come up with one show. :(

They need to be known *as* a poet. It's okay if they are primarily known for something else so long as they are also known as a poet. Someone who is famous for something else, and coincidentally wrote a poem that no one cares about, would not count.

Goethe is primarily known as a playwright and novelist (and in his day as many other things), but he is also known for his poetry, so he would count as a poet. Isaac Asimov published twenty-odd poems, but they are not famous and he is not really known for them, so he would not count as a poet.

Answer Cards received so far: Edgwyn, Jerakeen, Lilith, Excalibur, Ouroboros, Randomizer

RESULTS

This round featured nine *excellent* answer sheets. The scores were very close! I've checked the scores over but it is always possible that I made an error -- if so, please let me know. Congratulations to everyone including our two winners!

11 - Excalibur

12 - Edgwyn, Tridash, ADoS

15 - Jerakeen

16 - Nikki

18 - Lilith

19 - Randomizer, Ouroboros

[spoileralt=Full Results]01. Spell, battle discipline, or activated technique from any Spiderweb game:

N - Create Creature (Tridash)

N - Craft Circle (Ouroboros)

N - Crystal Wand (Ouroboros)

0 - Cleanse (Lilith, Excalibur, Nikki)

0 - Conflagration (Randomizer, Excalibur, Nikki, ADoS)

2 - Cloak of Curses (Jerakeen)

BONUS: Conflagration (Randomizer, Excalibur, Nikki, ADoS) - this spell was awesome

(Note: This category clearly excluded skills. I did meditate on Create Creature, but in the end, it is simply a command -- parallel to Attack, which was used as an example of an answer that would not count.)

02. Character from Greek mythology:

0 - Cassandra (Edgwyn, Jerakeen)

0 - Castor (Jerakeen, Lilith)

0 - Charybdis (Nikki, Tridash)

0 - Coeus (Ouroboros, Nikki, ADoS)

2 - Classical Civilisation (Tridash)

2 - Corporate Communications (Ouroboros)

(Note: I meditated on the last two for a while, but ultimately decided they are legitimate, typical majors, distinct from Classics and Business, if perhaps not *as* typical. Likewise, Criminal Justice and Criminology seem to be distinct disciplines. I can't distinguish two majors simply by the presence or absence of "Studies," I'm afraid.)

NEXT ROUND?

This turned out to be fun both as a player and to run a round. If anyone else wants to run a round, go for it! At some point tomorrow, if no one else has, I'll try to get round 4 going.
