Davies
One complaint that I've seen voiced here is that one reaches the level cap fairly quickly if one does all the sidequests. I'm curious, though -- how soon do you reach it if you don't do any of the sidequests? If you just do the bare minimum necessary to advance the main plot, and don't even bother to try and keep your party loyal? Has anyone examined this? Lilith
I know I've heard of people beating Avadon 1 without reaching the level cap at all; I suppose they must have done it by ignoring nearly all sidequests, and possibly also by dodging wandering monsters instead of fighting them whenever possible. For all I know it might be possible to do the same in Avadon 2.
Randomizer
It would depend on difficulty level since the game is balanced for normal difficulty with you doing most sidequests. There are only a few really difficult required fights.
Davies
Interesting. I think I'm going to try this on my next runthrough, after I finish my first "traitor" run. (I suspect that I'm probably going to get killed by the Fort Foresight zone fights in the endgame, though ...)
Bruce Mitchell
Inspired by this thread, I gave this a go at 'casual'. Some of it was as hard or harder than playing on 'torment', especially in the early stages! I tried to do it as a singleton initially, but had to use a party inside Monitor Base D. The Fort Foresight zone endgame was overcome by using a shadow walker's 'shadowstep' and speed potions. My character and party were level 17 on completion, well below the level 30 cap. Randomizer
A singleton tinkermage can make it on torment difficulty until the last boss fight in the Corruption.
Kelandon
Oh hey, it's Bruce Mitchell. Long time no see! If anyone could beat a Spiderweb game with a low-level character, it'd make sense that it'd be you. (Or Lilith, I guess, but I think we've established that I don't consider Lilith "anyone.") Level 17, huh? That's lower than I would've thought, but not implausibly low. A singleton tinkermage can make it on torment difficulty until the last boss fight in the Corruption. Sure, but presumably not while trying to maintain as low level as possible.
Bruce Mitchell
Hi there, Kelandon and other old timers! I think people could get quite a bit lower than level 17, especially if they have the patience to nail the art of looting without killing (money was generally low, so this strategy had to be done a bit). Invade, distract, loot, run (and shadow step)! Part of the advice for the Corruption (run!) became useful. Also, most useful is the use of stairs (etc) to handle enemies, and going out of combat to miraculously transport and resurrect characters. Randomizer, that must have been disappointing to get so far and have to capitulate. What was so difficult about the last boss fight in the Corruption (as a singleton on torment)? Lilith
Randomizer, that must have been disappointing to get so far and have to capitulate. What was so difficult about the last boss fight in the Corruption (as a singleton on torment)? I imagine one of the big hurdles was the fact that the fight requires you to have at least one character move around a lot. A singleton will tend to get bogged down by melee enemies and have trouble moving. I think it should still be possible with turrets and a bit of luck, but it'd be a long fight, even if you did that thing that makes that fight easier. Randomizer
The biggest problem was moving after the second time the shield drops since I have to keep recharging the turrets that I use to distract Miranda's horrors. I got past every problem except if one of those gets free from fighting turrets and dazes me. I figured after over 20 tries that it probably wasn't possible to come up with a tactic that would do through the entire fight. Plus the week that I spent replaying almost the whole game to change the runestone enhancements on my armor to maximize evasion and mental resistance. Miranda is the only one that hits me for significant damage, but some effects go through like daze and fatigue even if you don't take damage.
