Serene Tempest
Does anyone know what items that give you a % bonus to blessings and curses actually do? I haven't noticed them increase the duration (at least not in the skill tooltip... I haven't checked to see how many rounds they actually last), and the strength of most of them seems to be pre-determined (ie. Resistance Chant gives 20% resistance to magic and elemental damage). Same things for skills. For example, Shadowalker's focus gives haste and spine shield for 5 turns, and at level 3 gives regeneration for 3 turns. Dues raising the skill above 3 actually do anything (aside from unlocking Bladeshield)?
stranger
Increases in skills should increase duration: 1. Try casting Shadowwalker's Focus and check the turns remaining on the buffs. 2. Raise your skill by one and recast to see them (hopefully) increase by a turn. The tooltips do not update and are sometimes wrong.
Lilith
Note that durations are somewhat random: if you increase your blessing/curse effectiveness by, say, 2%, it usually won't have much effect, but you'll have a small chance of an extra turn of duration on blessings and curses. Punctuation rains from the heavens
Power levels are always the same. Raising skill levels will NOT affect the base duraton for most skills. (There is at least one exception: Charge Turrets, because it's hardcoded. There may be one or two other exceptions, but I haven't seen them.) "+X% to blessings/curses" will increase the duration. As Lilith said it's somewhat random, but it is actually a percentage increase; so if the base duration is 5 turns and you have a +20% bonus, you'll most often see your buff last 6 turns. Wait, does that mean there's no reason to raise any of the buffing skills above 6?
Copernicus
Related question -- does the level of a cursing skill count on how likely it is for the target to be affected? (After increasing my Sorcerer's blessing/curse ability, it feels like I've been able to Charm more monsters than before, but I don't have any hard data on that.) springacres
I think Charm is considered a mental attack, not a curse, but I'm not 100% sure on that. As for Lilith's question, that depends on the type of skill build you're going for. If you're doing a left tier build, the third skill in that column is linked to the second skill in the center column, so if you want to boost the left tier to 7 or 8 you'll have to raise both skills. Not sure if that's what you meant by buffing skills though?
stranger
Um no, it's not... Buffing skills include Shadowwalker's Focus and Bladeshield, whose durations do seem to increase with skill points alone after a few seconds of testing, it's just not one per level. And it's random. Seems I've gone and played the game under a misconception
Punctuation rains from the heavens
The answer to Copernicus's question is "yes, usually -- it depends on the skill." Some skills give an extra 5% chance to succeed per skill point (probably as for levels and base stats, I'm not sure about that). Some do not give an extra % chance per skill point. stranger, thanks for posting that. I took another look and it looks like there are a lot more exceptions than I thought. It turns out the same variable that affects success rate for curses, is applied to duration instead for buffs on friendly characters. Some skills have it and some don't. Punctuation rains from the heavens
...actually, this suggests that the "+% to blessings/curses" abilities probably increase curse success rate rather than duration, too.
stranger
All this makes Shadow Charm and Challenge seem even more silly to me, since their durations increase with character level.
