Plant creations somehow are also able to tell the difference between a shaper allied with a side and a shaper NOT allied with a side. Maybe the spell affects whatever controls that. Like an illusion. Talk about fighting dirty :-). In the early geneforge games spawners were not immune to mental effects, so it was possible to charm them.
