Nova
I realise being a hand kind of entitles me to be a dick but with me going around stealing anything that's not nailed down or in view of it's owner is this ever going to bite me in the ass? Or if I do that thing for the shady guy who approaches you outside the aerie? I also kind of feel bad for slaughtering those wretches for the farmer guy... Edgwyn
I have not seen any. I tend to minimize, but not eliminate, my thefts and was still able to complete the game in the loyalist mode. Likewise I have done most of the quests assigned by the "shady guy" without a problem with completing the game. As to the wretches, slaughter away, it makes Nathalie happy (though without any benefit), and almost all of the wretches are located in places where they are not allowed to be. Randomizer
Jeff made it that you can't steal stuff in sight of anyone; of course if they move away then it's free to take. You really need the money in this game so take it if you don't have any moral qualities. The Shady Guy is someone that starts off asking for minor favors and will keep coming back even if you skip them. Later on in the game the favors escalate and you will find out who he really is. Wretches are the humanoid equivalent of rats. Without pest control they will swarm. You don't have to do quests like that if you do feel bad. Welcome to Spiderweb Software. Please leave your sanity at the door. It will help you locate it, because Jeff designs games so you will lose it.
Lilith
There's at least one shopkeeper who'll refuse to sell you stuff any more if you break into her back room, but she does specifically warn you not to do that if you talk to her. Edgwyn
Good point. I believe that is the one in Dhorla Woods and the one in Bandit Roads does not want you to go upstairs.

Nova
Is the reward for framing Ryozo any good? I try to avoid ruining people's lives if there's nothing in it for me.
Randomizer
THE WAYFARER - framing Ryozo 2) quest: Ryozo's Papers - sapphire ring (2% armor, +25% resistance to acid and poison), icy runestone, emerald (4) Okay reward
Nova
Well if there's no reward for not framing him, I don't really know this guy from a hole in the ground so I guess he's off to the prisons. They'll just explore his mind later and find he's innocent so victimless crime, right?
Edgwyn
I have played through both ways and did not notice any difference in the final messages or ever saw him again, so there appears to not be any consequences for turning him in or not turning him in. As to Avadon determining that he is innocent, I sometimes think that their motto is "everyone is guilty of something".
Rockhound
You feel bad about slaughtering wretches?? Do you also fear for the ants you trample under your feet!?

Wretches are sentient beings, you know.
stranger
Since my first impression of wretches comes from the lovable Lord Svarl, who also gives me an Emerald Saber (!), I have a soft spot for them.
Questionably Legal
You are for real with this one? Wretches are sentient beings, you know. With little characterization, there is not much difference (in a game) between a wretch and some sort of annoying giant mutated ant.

The fact remains they are sentient humanoids with their own primitive culture.
Questionably Legal
The fact remains they are sentient humanoids with their own primitive culture. But that doesn't really matter in a game where you happily mow down any and all enemies: human, sentient, and mindless monster alike. And really, if you want to get down to "facts", they aren't sentient humanoids, they're little wads of computer code.

Doesn't matter to you, but Jeff has a long history of humanizing any and all "hostile" races or factions encountered in his games. I mean, you heard about that "geneforge" game, right? I mean, you heard about that "geneforge" game, right? I play the Geneforge games as a megalomaniac, blazing a path of destruction across wherever I happen to be. And really, how much sympathy do drakons and eyebeasts garner? Sure, they have a reason to oppose the Shapers, but they're almost totally lacking in positive or endearing traits other than being powerful. Just because I'm prone to wiping enemies out dosen't mean I don't appreciate the work JV puts into world building. Don't you think you're taking this a bit to seriously? Emmisary of Immanence
The eyebeasts are deliberately unsympathetic, I think. They're supposed to be very alien. The drakons do get some sympathy from me. I can understand why they would be the way they are. But they're also something of a strawman for opposing the rebels. —Alorael, who notes that the drakons probably approve of your blazing a path of destruction. At best, you're like an extra Unbound. At worst you're at least livin' the drakonic dream.

Don't you think you're taking this a bit to seriously? Of course, I am not judging anyone - Jeff's games often offer paths for mad cackling wizards blanketing the countryside with fireballs and it's cool. But just as you can be murderous, you can be also emphatetic. A poster expressed bewilderment about this, hence my retort. And I do feel empathy towards Drakons and Eyebeasts. Both are fascinating species, but my empathy tends to be limited when anything tries to murderize me. I have no problem with reasonable Drakons and Eyebeasts. Not that I met any of the latter kind, but some almost came close.
Nova
Isn't examining our opinions through the lens of a fantasy setting half the fun of it?
Buillon
I would say yes, it is at least half the fun.
Jerakeen
The other half is killing enemies and taking their stuff.
