Do I need a mage for dispel barriers or can I get by with a priest, 2 fighters and an archer? I got by Avernum's remake with a priest as my only spellcaster. You may occasionally miss bits of loot, but I don't think there's ever any truly vital content hidden behind magical barriers. If there are places where you MUST pass a barrier, you will always be able to use consumable crystals to do the job. Depending on the game you're doing, you may find others have done the same thing (played with no mages, or no magic of any kind); check the various Strategy Central threads and you might find helpful advice.
