Death Knight
Well seeing as Avadon 2 is very high on my list of must get games, I would say that this thread be used to talk about new classes, the updated swalker skills of turrets and whatever else. I think that with the new class jeff will either make a barbarian or berserker class which is melee (swords and poles) and ranged (javelins) as Shamans arent as good with ranged as the swalker and bmaster counterparts. Plus they need a javelin wielding berserker warrior dont they? One of the things I like about Avadon that I prefer somewhat to the other games is that its the only game series jeff's made where classes actually behave passively and actively different from one another. In geneforge there is some bit of differentiating but still guardians and serviles have very similar passive stats. So what class will you be- Shaman wielding death with magic.. Shadowwalker assassinating with blade and razordisk.. Blademaster destroying enemies with a bulwark fury of steel.. Sorceress slaying most anything with blasts that gets in her way... I have to say, even without the new class, I really dont know who I am going to play as in this game. Do you?
Emmisary of Immanence
It's a little early to say, what with not knowing the fifth class or really anything about class changes. I suspect I'm going to go with blademaster, shadowwalker, or the new one if it's a strong melee class. (Yes, even knowing ranged is better and Dex is the best stat.) That fits my preferred style of play and I've never found myself wishing I didn't have a solid damage-dealer and tank in the party. —Alorael, who also likes going with a shadowwalker for the convenience of not having switch characters around to ensure he has lockpicking. Although he's hopeful that Jeff may remove lockpicking as a skill. It's very useful without being any fun.
Randomizer
I still like Shadowwalker and Sorceress, but I will try the new one and Blademaster. I like attack at a distance before the enemy can close and scratch the paint.
nikki.
Probably Sorceress or Blademaster: those were my favourite two classes from Avadon, so unless the new class is especially good I'll hold off on trying her out.
Triumph
To be honest...the art of the classes will matter a good bit to me. For example, in G4 I really dislike the art of the Infiltrator, so I won't play it. How the classes look will likely influence which I choose. I will probably also be influenced any comments people post here about what class might be most fun to play.
Mosquito---Slayer
I will probably go with the new class, whatever way it plays.

Wanting to go with melee in a game where it punishes you to not go ranged. I like ranged in Avadon because its so blatantly obvious that it works well, but some part of me still enjoys what part of Avernum EFTP there is. I enjoy melee more because probably there are more variants to it. You can never make the same tank twice and its always a lot of fun to come up with ideas. Emmisary of Immanence
You can make as many variations on ranged as you want as well. The kicker for Avadon is that melee characters, even tanks, are also better off with Dex. They take less damage and can do more in return with most abilities and scarabs. —Alorael, who played back in the beta, before the numbers had been run and Dex deemed superior. He'd still play the same way though. Melee isn't punished at all; Jeff clearly intended for blademasters and some shadowwalkers to be primarily melee characters. Because of this he didn't balance heavy Dex reliance quite right and it's too good. Str-heavy melee means your characters balance to how the game is intended. to be. Well melee isnt the best way of attacking but I still used to use it in the past some. I had problems once it came down to boss fights though. Thats where I lost the reason to play melee in Avadon in general. While Shadowalkers and Blademasters both can melee, there are a number of enemy abilities that push you away and make melee much more frustrating. Those abilities are present in Avernum remake but much less common. I would play Avadon with melee primarily if I could use melee for more than 70% of the enemies I want to attack. If I cant then better off sticking with ranged all out. I have heard some people play blademasters with just melee and use teleporting gear and such but I find it hard to believe with some of the strictly ranged fights in game. Maybe its worth further investigation.
Randomizer
You need the extra action points to close using blink to avoid enemy meatshields and then melee attack. The demons in the first Zhoss Mindtaker cave are a good example.
Catoblepas
I'll probably play through as a Sorceress again. I usually use whatever spellcaster classes are available in a given rpg over non spellcasting classes. My reasoning is that in a fantasy game, why constrain myself to the guy who hits things really hard with a sword when I can shoot lightning from my hands? Skwish-E
I'll probably try the new class because it is ... NEW. Then on replay go with shadowwalker, then replay again as sorceress.
cremornagainagain
Hi Shaman is something of a Shaper-surrogate for me, as I like pets (well, summoned creatures that you send to their deaths). Last year I played Avadon as a Shaman, and I didn't find it so bad not playing as a tank. Praps it just takes longer. Anyway, what I always do first time, is play through the way it's set up as generic by the Author, on normal. So my answer is, "whatever I'm given". And then I will unbalance my friend-characters mightily by always taking the Shaman as my adventure companion :^) On a side note, when I had to ask the server for a new password just now, re-captcha gave me what I thought (wrongly) were the words: Tiateric Placido ...so now I have my main character's name ! One stat is well known to be completely broken and it isn't fixed between games? I was almost POSITIVE that Avadon 2 would rebalance the stats... I was almost POSITIVE that Avadon 2 would rebalance the stats... They often are fixed. For example, parry in Geneforge 2, versus later Geneforges. I suspect it will be at least somewhat more balanced in Avadon 2.
Randomizer
It will probably be closer to Avernum: Escape from the Pit with monster attacks that need points in more than one stat.
