Tenderfoot Thahd Eol
So how do you complete this mission? I have spoken with Commander R, went down below and did the ogre retreat dialogue, spoke with Commander R again, and then headed off to the Ogre camp to "pacify them". When I speak with Ogre Deputy "R" (I'm typing this off memory") who is blocking the entrance I have a bunch of dialogue options but none that let me through, all either end in "go away" or a battle. Hatchling Cockatrice Lilith
"Pacify" is a nice euphemism for "kill everyone who resists". You're going to have to fight them. Eol
Understated Ur-Drakon Earth
only good ogre is dead ogre. like Lilith said you'll need to massacre all who resists (pretty much every1). Eol
Tenderfoot Thahd Eol
The problem is I did that route and it ended up killing EVERYBODY (did it a couple times actually trying to see if something would trigger when most were dead). When all were dead I went back to Commander R and he didn't give me a completion dialogue.
Ineffable Wingbolt Mosquito---Slayer
IIRC you had to kill only the rebel ogres, not all of them, to complete the mission, but it's been sometime since I last played the game.
Understated Ur-Drakon Earth
yea you need to kill only 1 ogre who challenges you to complete mission, can't remember if needed to talk to chief 1st. after completing mission you can kill'em all. Tenderfoot Thahd Eol
That didn't work Captain. I went to the gate, dialogued the dude standing there, killed him, and returned to Comannder R, no new dialogue. Also I went downstairs after killing the dude and all ogre's aggro'ed, no dialogue chance. Something is bugged here.
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
Once you killed the ogre at the gate the whole level goes hostile. Once you got the quest you should have been able to go through the gate and talk to the ogre leader. Then you can go to the rebel ogre leader. Tenderfoot Thahd Eol
Randomizer:: Yet I can't go through the gate and I have the quest.
Ineffable Wingbolt Mosquito---Slayer
You have to check on the area where they are doing the excavation first and find what's going on, have you done that?
Chittering Clawbug Leaper
I found an FAQ that says that you can get away with just killing the Chief (but that was for the PC version). Still true here? I was thinking of killing the rebellious ogre, but are my rewards better for just the chief? The FAQ didn't say anything about going to the camp. Ineffable Wingbolt Mosquito---Slayer
Can't you first kill the rebels, get your reward and then kill the chief?
Chittering Clawbug Leaper
Not if the better reward you get is from the Commander.
Chittering Clawbug Leaper
As an aside, I think I know where all the confusion originated from. The OP thought that the ogres he had to pacify were the ones at the Ogre Gate - the rebels who said they didn't work with the soldiers but had a deal with them to leave them alone. OP, if you're still confused, there's a different group of ogres within the excavation itself. THEY are the ones you have to deal with. If you're leaving the excavation complex and going south, those are a separate group of ogres entirely. (As an aside, I decided to fight those ogres. Despite the dialogue from the chief making me feel a little bad, I've so far decided to not reload from before my confrontation with them. I don't see any consequences so far, but are there any at all, besides a personal morality thing?)
Ineffable Wingbolt Mosquito---Slayer
Yep, no other consequences apart from the as you said "morality".
