A:EftP - Help me! Die immediately I enter fort after tutorial

Recommended Posts

This is a known issue. What has probably happened is that you've attacked the friendly characters down in the tutorial cave.

There are a couple of things you can do to get around it though (taken from this thread: http://spiderwebforu..._+fort +avernum). Either start a new game (since you're not very far in, this shouldn't be too much of a problem), and this time do not attack any of the friendly characters (I'm sure there are only a handful hiding in a small building), or, before going upstairs, type shift-D (a capital letter D) and in the box that appears, enter forgiveme.

There's definitely a menu option to enter cheat/debug codes somewhere in the preferences of the iPad version, although I don't have the iPad version so I couldn't tell you exactly where.

I believe it's in the settings or preferences menu.

Jim, the bad guys down there also count as "friendly" before they turn hostile. I thought this had been fixed, but just to be safe, don't attack anyone preemptively - you'll know it's okay to attack when their dots on the auto-map turn red (plus you'll automatically go into combat mode).

(And just in case you DO need to use the cheat menu, it can be accessed on the iPad by tapping the little floppy disk icon, and then using the "Enter Cheat Code" option.

I do wonder when the little floppy disk icon will be replaced by something else that's a little more relevant...)

You'd have to delete the character to avoid having them automatically resurrect when you enter town. And then you'd lose any equipment they were carrying, wouldn't you? It'd be a bummer if they were carrying the Orb of Thralni ...

Edit: I guess you can bend the rules a bit and let them resurrect in town, drop the orb, and then delete them.

You can't transfer the Orb between characters in the party? Strip the body of all useful gear as soon as feasible.

Hmmm, has anyone played a party though the game where when a PC dies, they don't resurrect them? It sounds like it would be a little bit of a challenge, even more so on torment.

Should be very, very challenging, one good hit from a tough slime or drake even during the mid game and it's all over on torment, I am pretty sure I won't be able to do that considering I die a 100 or so times in the eastern gallery itself, but my respect to anybody who does.

Its impossible unless all chars do phys and magi (mage level high enuf to cast fireblast and priest level high enuf to cast at least unshackle mind, maybe even mass heal) damage since there are so many enemies which have high to total resistance to phys or magi damage and damagewise that party wouldn't be as good as specialized party members.

You could maybe do it by treating the party as a singleton "with support". In other words, pick one character as your main character, and give them the type of build you'd give a character intending to be a singleton (since by the end of the game they probably will be). Give them all the best stuff as well, and devote most of your training $$$ to them. The other characters will give the main character support until they die off.

The problem is that you can't reload once you die, and with a singleton on torment there is every chance you will be dying once or twice before you actually manage to do any fight.

Edit:- Besides a singleton is tough enough even when you don't have some "soon to die" partners gobbling up your XP.

One party that I have in mind is a two member one pure priest and one fighter-priest design, the priest will always stay back, hide if possible, and heal like hell, whenever possible you will enter the battle with two shades, having only two members mean that the party should level up quickly enough for "one shot dead" chances to be eliminated,a second priest also means that you have enough healing power at hand, I still have serious doubts if it can manage but that's the best I can think of.
