Tenderfoot Thahd ppd
I just finished Avernum 4. When passing through Almaria the first time, where all of the citizens are hostile, what happens if you kill the citizens? Does this interfere with a later quest based on talking to the mayor? I started to kill them, but I figured it would look really bad to the Castle and stopped. I don't have a save for this part of the game and don't currently wish to replay up to that point. Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
Once you get to the Castle there is a quest sending you back there. Hopefully they won't be hostile anymore. The Mayor and the trainers are on the city's south side so you probably didn't kill anyone important. There are some in the lower levels that are okay to kill as you pass through town. I think you can still finish the game without having them go neutral. You might check to see if the Autosave file is from before entering the main part of the city. Understated Ur-Drakon Earth
its possible that you killed some minor quest givers but that you'll see when town is friendly again.
Easygoing Eyebeast Xaiya
If you kill quest givers or the mayor, you can always give the dialog to some obscure sign.
Easygoing Eyebeast Trenton.
How does one kill the dwellers without visiting the castle first? I've never gotten 4 turns attacking the shade without the onyx scepter. Let alone run past him into a town full of hostile guards.
Tenderfoot Thahd ppd
Thanks for your replies. Specifically, I was wondering what happens if you kill Mayor Bevan before you reach the Castle. Does this interfere with a later necessary quest to return to Almaria and talk to Mayor Bevan? It's hard to remember specifics, but I think you can outrun the shade by using haste spells. Eventually, it will return to its usual spot. Hatchling Cockatrice Lilith
There's nobody in Almaria who you absolutely have to talk to in order to finish the game, but people you kill will stay dead and won't be able to give you any quests or sell you any items. Easygoing Eyebeast Trenton.
But I thought you needed to talk to the mayor to be allowed under the city.
Well-Actually War Trall Harehunter
Your first crossing from the Tower of Magi has to go through an underground tunnel on the east side of the river, under Almaria, up through the northern section (avoiding the spectre) and out through some door I can't remember. However, the main portion of Almaria underground is behind locked gates, and the main part of the town is hostile, so you can't go there until after you have reported the situation at The Castle, and they have quieted the town so you can enter. Then you have to speak to the mayor to gain access to the rest of the sewers.
