Arcane shield spells in A4?

I have cleared out Fort Saffron and am ready to head into the final phase of the journey by going into the Abyss. I keep reading about how useful the arcane shield and another arcane something spells are, but I am not able to access them and I don't know why. They show up on the spell list grayed out. And where is the basalt fortress I see referenced in the walkthrough?

Are you high enough in mage spells to use them? Most start at level 15 and higher to cast them plus they have high spell energy costs.

My mage is level 30 or 31. . . I don't know about the spell energy costs. . . how do I check that?

Not you character level, but the skill level with mage spells.

 

Spell energy should be in the description when you move the cursor over thee spell icon in casting.

Thanks for the tip! My mage skill level is 15, and I found out I need 16 for one and 17 for the other arcane spells. Thanks!

that other arcane spell is arcane blow, due high energy usage its not that much used and other area spells do enuf damage.
