Tenderfoot Thahd RotghrothStew
Hello all, I have never gotten the hang of safely detonating mines in Geneforge 1, I have brown and green spore batons which seem hit and miss to me. Sometimes I could take out a concert hall of mines with a little shake of my baton but then other times it yields me nothing but an eventual head rolling. On the Ancient Crypt level for example ( I think thats the one) there are many strong green mines with the wiggly hairs on top that only explode if my shaper gets too close (not creations, though i've been known to take a few of them with me). I can't progress through the upper parts of this level because I can't remove the mines blocking me and the green spore batons won't function unless I get close enough for the blast to kill me. Does anyone have any advice on how to approach these things? (and survive, I should add)
Easygoing Eyebeast Triumph
IIRC, the "mines" in the Ancient Crypt are the big kind that you must run up to (using combat mode) and disarm (requires good Mechanics skill).
Tenderfoot Thahd RotghrothStew
Thanks for the tip, thats good to know.
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
Some mines elsewhere in the game are only disarmed with a box where you flip the lever and there is a hissing sound mentioned in the text, Hill of Jars is one of these places. Welcome to Spiderweb Software. Please leave your sanity at the door. Wait the mines took care of that.
Tenderfoot Thahd RotghrothStew
Yeah I think you are right about this place Randomizer, i've been thoroughly disarmed several times now
Easygoing Eyebeast The Mystic
Also, a minor spoiler with the mines you disarm with spore batons: Click to reveal.. The batons come in a few different colors, and so do the mines (you'll be told which ones are which color in the text). Each color baton will only disarm mines with that specific color. Tenderfoot Thahd RotghrothStew
Thanks for the responses guys, I got so far but have reached mines that can't be danced around so i'm going to have to leave this level and assume that the Ancient Crypt is not meant to be cleared yet. Perhaps there is a way to deactivate the mines in a nearby level.
Tenderfoot Thahd RotghrothStew
Well I figured it out! I had to raise mechanics to 11 which I did to deactivate the crystals which reduces the range of the mine and allows you to walk around them. I thought originally that this wouldn't work because the mines still explode, but they don't explode as easily now
Easygoing Eyebeast Triumph
Huzzah! Yeah, there are some areas where Mechanics is pretty much a necessity.
